I've actually had the opposite experience than you. The first two years of high school all I did was watch anime and it has accumulated to quite a list. So my senior year rolls around and I really don't have time to do anything aside from school work. So one day in our free period, my friends and I started to talk about anime and we got to the question, "Who's your favorite anime character?" At the time the only anime/manga I kept up with were the big three. So I said "I really like Naruto, Ichigo, and Luffy, they're cool and kick ass." Then one of my friends, friend said ," Those aren't real anime and they're weak." Later I found out that she had only watched one anime and it was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. At that point I shut down, I did not have time to deal with this girl having a mountain full of class and home work.
In the end I really think it depends on the person.

I believe that it is possible, yes.
Honestly, though, I've only ever met people online that can show a bit of superiority complex, which has never frustrated me much, as I tend to ignore annoying persons.
However, I will admit that an old friend of mine could be a little bit like that with anime... he tends to look at things only from his point of view and is very narrow-minded about the anime he watches, as well as opinions on it.

I have seen the same thing. I actually had a real-life encounter with one of those people. It's not pleasurable to have a conversation with someone who seems to think they're a better anime fan than you just because they've seen more. And hell, I've watched over a hundred anime (not all the way through though), so she must have spent a lot of time watching them. None the less, yeah I do sort of feel that way.

yeah, one of my friends didn't think I was a real anime fan because I had only seen 30 anime and she has seen hundreds. But most people are not like that.
