Doctor Strange Confirmed for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Marvel fans have already been speculating about just which characters will make it into
The massive film, which is set to pull from every corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will see a large group of heroes take on the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin), but that’s all we really know about the plot. In a recent interview, Benedict Cumberbatch seemed to confirm that he would be one of the heroes involved though.
visit to the set (details of which are in their current issue), Cumberbatch talked about scheduling when asked what was next for
, which might seem like a strange segue at first. Doctor Strange, who only has a single solo film on the public docket right now, hasn’t made his cinematic debut just yet, but Cumberbatch told the magazine that there is a “logistical challenge” of getting his schedule to “line up with those of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Bettany.” He also added, “to get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.”
staples like Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), would appear in the movie as well as newer Avengers like Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). In fact,
is the only time we know of over the next few years that the particular combination of actors Cumberbatch references will be together on a Marvel screen.
Vin Diesel recently confirmed that at least some
characters would make an appearance. Joe and Anthony Russo have also hinted that Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) would see her on screen introduction in the film. That’s a lot of MCU characters already, but when the group is taking on someone after the all-powerful Infinity Stones, they probably need more than just characters that can shoot or fly - they need someone a little magical.
Doctor Strange is set to bring the magic to the MCU in his movie debut. As the trailers have demonstrated, the movie will see the character harnessing magical abilities, not just focusing on science fiction. He’ll be opening portals and seeing reality bend before his very eyes. The story has the potential to open up the multi-verse and alternate realities for the MCU, but also could bring faster-than-light travel to the movies, something necessary if your Earth-bound heroes are battling someone coming from another end of the universe.
is set to start filming later this year in Atlanta for a 2018 release.
