Here's where I reveal what my "friend," Dean does. It was the araw before the prom. Reese came up to me and said, "Anthony, I have a confession to make." I said, "I'm listening." She said, "I'm sorry you have to hear this, but, I'm breaking up with you." I said, "You've got be kidding me!" She said, "I wish I could say I was." I asked, "Why are you doing this?" She said, "Dean asked me to the prom about a week ago." I sinabi in a rage, "And you wait until now to tell me?! What's wrong with you?" She said, "Dean is madami handsome if that's what you mean." I said, "That was a rhetorical question, first of all. Second, I think it's ridiculous to break up with someone before prom. Third, why can't you at least give me prom?" She walked away. I sighed. I should have listened to my mom and Utah. Why would Dean betray me like that? I didn't understand. I came tahanan later than usual. My mom said, "You're tahanan late. What happened?" I asked, "What do you think happened?" She said, "Oh, no! Did you and Reese have a fight?" I said, "No, she dumped me." My mom asked, "Why did she dump you right before prom?" I said, "She told me that Dean asked her to prom a week ago, and she didn't bother to tell me until today." She said, "I knew Dean would betray you, but I didn't think he'd betray you like this!" I said, "I don't understand that one, either." She asked, "Are you still going to prom?" I said, "Yeah." I later took a walk through the neighborhood. I then ran into Utah. She asked, "Why are you walking sa pamamagitan ng yourself, Anthony?" I said, "I just need to clear my head, but you can walk with me if you like." She joined me. Then, she said, "Anthony, talk to me. Why are you so blue?" I told her the whole story. Utah said, "That witch!" She didn't say witch, though. She then said, "If I had known that happened, I would have bought a prom dress and asked you to prom." I said, "That's okay. I'll just go alone." She said, "I hope you have fun. I'm sorry about what happened." I said, "I'll be okay. Thanks." The susunod night, I went to prom. I danced with Simon and Charles. When my mga kaibigan were occupied, Dean showed up. He said, "Well, well, well, if it isn't Reese's ex!" I said, "If you're trying to manipulate me, it's not going to work, you God forsaken pig!" Jon said, "That's fancy wording for a junior!" Dean said, "Your girlfriend's a good dancer. It's a shame she didn't want to dance with you." I asked, "Why did you betray me?" He said, "Tell him, Jon." Jon said, "I told him that if he estola your girlfriend, I would pay him thirty dollars." Dean said, "I took the dare, because I can use the money." I said, "Not only did you betray me, but you did it for a meager amount of money! You're Judas reincarnated!" Dean took his fist and punched me. I fell to the ground. "Friend," I cried, "why are you doing this?!" He smiled and sinabi to his gang, "Do it!" Jon kicked me. The others joined in. They beat me until I Nawawala consciousness. Then, they took me and dropped me in front of the school. Charles and Simon found me. Charles said, "Simon, I think...I think he's dead." Simon felt for a pulse. He said, "No, he's still alive." Charles then called, "Anthony, can you hear me?!" I could hear him, but I couldn't respond. Simon called 9-1-1, and I was rushed to the hospital. When I came to, my mom was with with them. She said, "My poor baby!" She hugged me. Simon asked, "Anthony, who did this to you?" I said, "It was Dean and his gang. Mom, I should have listened to you." Charles said, "That pig! I'm going to kill him!" I said, "No, Charles." I was badly bruised, and I had a cracked rib, but other than that, I was fine. Emotionally, I was seriously hurt. I couldn't believe anyone would betray me like that.
The Annual Lighting of the Tree
A couple of months passed, and it was December 8. It was the annual lighting of the tree. Red Cedar always had a sense of community, especially around Christmas. The puno in the center of town was always decorated. The high school band always played some pasko songs for the occasion. I told Gavin that I remembered when he first came to town and attended this event for the first time. We were in band then. Gavin thought it was exciting, as he had never partaken of such an event. Mayor Brown lit the tree, and the band began to play. When I was in band, I played the saxophone. When I tried out for band, I had no interest in the drums. I decided to try out for the trombone, but that didn't work out. I tried the saxophone, and it came easy for me. Gavin played the drums, as they came easy to him. Paul was in the band, too. He played the clarinet. We had a lot of fun in the band. We made some of my best memories from high school there.
