Weeks after becoming the second woman in history to win Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival,
“Beguiled” director Sofia Coppola says she hasn\'t heard back from Clint Eastwood, who starred in the original Don Siegel directed version of the film in 1971.
“No I haven\'t,” Coppola told us at the film\'s New York premiere on the Lower East Side. “We invited him, but we haven\'t heard back.”

Coppola\'s take on Eastwood\'s 1971 film pulls a noteworthy switcharoo in the Civil War era drama about a soldier who deserts the Union army and hides out in a Southern boarding school for girls.

“I thought it would be interesting to retell it from the female characters\' point of view because it\'s about a group of women and the Don Siegel film was told from a male point of view, so I was curious,” she said.
Coppola also opted to make slavery a lesser issue in her version.
“I felt the slave characters in the original was very stereotypical and I didn\'t want to portray a black character that way,” she said.
