Thank goodness. I can Finally let this show go now. without regret or sadness. So I'm actually quite satisfied. I mean how could we have ever thought that it would be different? But I'm satisfied. I can say goodbye peacefully. So I'm content. But delena will always be in my heart.

I think it's important that we know, so we don't hold on to false hope. We can try to move on now, which is not the same as forgetting, might I add.

Oh no, I will never forget delena. Never! They are branded on my heart forever. Most beautiful tv couple of all time. LONG LIVE DELENA!!!! I will always love you and remember you. And no shitty forced Bamon romance will ever take your place. You are the TRUE and REAL love story of this show, and you always will be.

I actually think they already shot the Delena ending last season to be honest. It makes sense. So DE still might get their happily ever after, at least I hope so :)

I hope you're right, but then why aren't they doing everything in their power to ensure that we keep watching?

I was half expecting this to be honest - as crushing as it is, I think it's better for us all if we know. I just wish they hadn't written her off in such a stupid way. So what - are we expected to believe that Elena is stuck in a coffin in a coma forever and none of her friends and family or Damon ever go to see her or check that everything is still OK? Or are the writers gonna find a sneaky way around that, and have her body carried off by some mystical, other-worldy force?

And how uncharacteristic would it be for Damon if he said 'Oh, well, she's already been in there for so long. We might as well let her stay put'

meh
i sincerely hope that he doesn't say anything along those lines. his character is already skating on thin ice enough as it is, if he attempts to make it worse....

I'm honestly a little upset with Nina right now. You know, i supported and respected her for feeling she needed to leave - but this? This isn't right. She allowed the fans to have hope that she would come back, even if just for a few minutes in the series finale, to give closure to her character. Didn't she actually make a statement shortly after the finale about how she was looking forward to coming back and wrapping up Elena's story?? Or was that just made up?

Either way, the writers, Plague AND Nina, they all used us - they played with our emotions and used them to try and keep people watching. Nina obviously knew she had no intention to ever come back, therefore 1.) there should have been a different ending, this sleeping spell shit is pointless if Nina won't ever come back. & 2.) Nina should have been straight from the beginning and said "I'm sorry to disappoint you guys, i loved playing Elena Gilbert, but i will not be returning to TVD at any point."

It's been almost 5 months since S6 ended, how was it in any way fair to let people continue having false hope all this time??

It's pure manipulation. Nothing more.

@xoheartinohioxo, I remember someone posting a picture or something about Nina supposedly returning, but I always doubted if it was real. It may only have been fan speculation or hearsay on social media about what Nina 'said' that somehow became 'fact' when it was not. Did Nina ever churn out a statement that said she would be returning? No.

I've been wondering about the finale a lot. I personally would have preferred a death scene over the one we actually got but that's just me, even if Nina had been willing to return to the show. Maybe Plague didn't want to risk the wrath of fans by killing Elena off, or maybe she was too much of a coward; maybe she was still hoping that Nina would change her mind later on. Either way, she definitely wanted to give DE fans a reason to keep watching S7. But giving us false hope was worse, and crueller than no hope at all.

Reminds me of the quote from OUAT - "But you- you gave me the worst thing you can give anyone. Hope."
