But, I think it's because he's going back his original ways of being "innocent and sweet." That's the thing about about Damon's character. He doesn't care about what other people think of him. He's going to be himself, and he hopes people come to respect that. He doesn't hide who is like Stefan. That's why he was always encouraging Stefan to lighten up, and accept who is, and that's a vampire. But, Damon is changing for Elena.
