A relationship is built on trust. During the last episode(2.09) Stefan did not trust Elena. He automatically amused Elena was with Damon. (2.03) Elena told him to trust her, and nothing is going to happen between her, and Damon. She is a very loyal girl, much like Damon. But, Stefan seriously treated her like a child, and kept her a short leash.
