We Wish These Disney-Inspired Designer Shoes Were Real
We were cruising around explore on Instagram the other day, like you do, when we stumbled upon the most amazing Disney design project ever. @GrizandNorm is an Instagram account populated by beautiful sketches, clearly with a Disney influence. Beautiful animation sketches and character drawings are accompanied by imaginative princess interpretations, and our favorite bit, designer shoes inspired by Disney.
The account is run by two feature animation artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay and Norman Lemay. Griselda, a visdev and character designer, is responsible for the fanciful shoe series that we immediately fell in love with.
We reached out to Griselda to get the scoop on how she came up with such a beautiful series of designs. She mixed elements from each character’s personality and color palette with designer shoe styles to achieve what she described as the “perfect fit.”
“The inspiration for this series of Disney character-inspired shoes came from daydreaming about Disney Princesses wearing my favorite designer shoes” she described.
“I’ve always loved great shoe design. To me, shoes are a piece of art/sculpture that you wear. When done right, it exudes personality and character. The craft itself is a reflection of the designer’s taste and attention to details. In my mind, a great pair of shoe is the exclamation point to an outfit.”
We especially love that Griselda also had a designer shoe in mind when she created each of her shoes. For example, for Tiana, she didn’t just borrow from Tiana’s story and color palette, but also too inspiration from Dolce & Gabbana for the final look.
Griselda says she loves the theme so much she’ll keep it going all month, so keep your eyes peeled for some new characters, and perhaps even a few Disney Villains sprinkled in.
See the full series below, and let us know which shoe is your favorite in the comments!
As Griselda put it, these Louboutins are “fit for a queen.” Queen Elsa, that is.
Jimmy Choo’s “Lilith” heel was the inspiration for Belle’s shoes that are the perfect “exclamation point” for her ballgown.
Cinderella has a simple glass d’Orsay heel by Stuart Weitzman.
Aurora with classic Manolo Blahnik pumps. Be sure to hit play on this one for an important color change detail.
Of course Ariel’s scalloped cage booties were inspired by a Sergio Rossi design.
Kobi Levi’s whimsical heels were the basis for Jasmine’s ponytail-heeled pump.
Alice’s Mary Janes featuring the Cheshire Cat were based on a Charlotte Olympia design.
Snow White’s Valentino pumps boast a red bow.
Griselda describes Tink’s Louboutins as having “pluminette super fluffy poms.”
Rapunzel’s stilettos are clearly inspired by Jimmy Choo.
Tiana’s floral shoes were based on a Dolce & Gabana design.
These Alexander McQueen-inspired booties are perfect for fall.
Mulan’s shoe was inspired by an embroidered Manolo Blahnik design.
Pocahontas would definitely rock these personalized Chloe Daniella suede sandals.
