Please try to remove you bias and give good reasons why you choose said movie!
I understand that Flynn and Rapunzel have a pretty good relationship, but as for the rest of the movie... I've already talked about the lack of female representation, the problems with Gothel, and such. I'm open to listen to reasons why an other movie should leave though.
Feminist is supporting feminine qualities...Like in support of women in the same aspect that Marxism
On the other hand sexist could be prejudiced to men or women.
So are we voting on most sexist? X3 Because I voted on that aspect. As much as a love
Sleeping Beauty (my favorite princess) it was most sexist compared to the others, in my mind.
/ˈfeməˌnizəm/
Noun
The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
So yes, I am talking about feminism.
Besides, boiling feminism down to nothing more than supporting feminine qualities is wrong. If I were a non-feminine woman, does that mean I can not be a feminist?
Anyway... I'm not sure yet.
Nah, I think the reasoning you explained makes a lot of sense, really. Made me think about the take
on Tangled more, really.
*edit
Oh, and I didn't really explain my reasoning on the Sleeping Beauty choice! Well, considering the time this movie was created and also the time it was supposed to take place in, it actually was a bit out-of-the-box. You got some teenager, running around barefoot, in a forest, dancing with animals and a random hottie she just met.
Still, the whole thing about how the gifts the fairies gave her still kind of gets to me. It was a really sweet moment, but out of all the things they could of blessed her with, it was beauty and a nice voice. I don't know about you guys, but I think her mom was awfully pretty. I'm sure she would have been fine without their help on that issue.
Then it kind of makes me sad to think Phillip only was able to find her through that singing gift. Something kind of artificial, right? Then he is ready to marry her that night because she was pretty and danced around with him in the woods?
Again, Sleeping Beauty is my favorite princess and one of my top favorite movies, so nothing I say is out of spite, but that's just my
reasoning on the matter.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else votes on. Great topic. ^^
Tangled, yes, has a lack of female representation, but that's true for ALL the other DP-movies left, too (with the exception of Sleeping Beauty, naturally). It makes up for being the only DP movie, in which it is implied that the Princess eventually becomes the regent, the only one, in which the romance is entirely based on interest in each others characters, not looks, and a very exqual romance.
So, I'm torn between "The little Mermaid" and "Pocahontas" for now..."The little Mermaid" because there is a certain pattern in this movie, that Ariel creates trouble due to her own thoughtless actions, so that her group of friends (all of them male) has to jump in to rescue her. On the other hand, "Pocahontas" with her inability to make any decisions (or stand up against the idea that she needs a strong man to protect her) is somewhat worse...but this movie has at least a somewhat feminist ending to make up for it....
Plus "The little Mermaid" somewhat dives into stereotypes...the gossiping woman who do the wash, this whole "daughters sing the praise of their father" concert, Ariel's sisters who are all only seen in front of their mirrors (they don't even get personalities), the whole "the prince has to marry because we need an heir" matter....
Plus, Pocahontas passes the Bechtel test, The Little Mermaid (and Beauty and the Beast) doesn't.
I don't consider the fairies protagonists, so I think the movie is slightly less feminist than The Little Mermaid. But, either could go.
That is a whole lot more feminist than any other princess movies... especially beauty and the beast... because Bell is abused... and it makes me sad.
