Disney Princess Don't you think Beast's act of letting Belle go was careless considering his servants would have been condemned to remain objects for eternity?

I only realized it after reading Tygers_Eye's comment ''everyone looks at the moment Beast let her go as the ultimate act of love and altruism, but I think he didn't just sacrifice himself: he sacrificed the chance for the entire staff. They all got turned into inanimate objects because of HIM, had to stay locked in the castle for 10 years because HE wouldn't even TRY to lift the curse, then when things are going well, they finally have a chance... and he lets her go without so much as acknowledging or apologizing to them.''

It doesn't change everything but that's really problematic when I think about it actually. I have to rethink his character.

I would have picked "kinda". I mean, yeah, it was careless, but Maurice was dying and the servants were turned into objects because they simply spoiled the Prince after his parents died, without trying to educate him (though to their defense, they were simply servants, and people in their stations would probably be sentenced to death if they scolded a royal).

Sure, he loved Belle and knew Maurice was dying but his servants waited all their life to be turned into humans. And it was only because of him that they were turned into objects. Still he probably loved Belle too much that he couldn't keep her a prisoner anymore. I'm not sure what to answer.

There should have been "Kind of" He loved her to much to worry about them, which is careless, but at least his servants would be alive, Maurice was DYING so is he really so heartless as to keep is love a prisoner? Plus if he didn't let her go god knows everyone would complain about how selfish he is and how he was keeping Belle from her village life. Really it's between, Keep her here to save my staff even though your father is dying and look like a selfish douche or Let her go to save her father and she is no longer prisoner and sacrificing what I want most so I look like a chivalrous, noble hero.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but sometimes I would just not use a ''kind of'' as an option because I know most people will vote for it. I still think he was being careless as we don't see him apologize to his servants after he told Cogsworth he let her go. Idk, couldn't he have gone with her and bring her father back to the castle or something?

And then when Cogsworth asks why he says "Because, I love her."
True he could of, but it seems more bittersweet to let her go.
Don't you know the song?
You know you've Been high when you're feeling low, you only hate the road when you're missing home.
You only know you love her when you let her go.
And you let her go.

He puts Belle's needs and want before anyone else. THATS LOVE!
He just couldn't care about his servants because he loves Belle to much.
He could have just brought Maurice back, but to show true love he had to let her go.
You're actually completely right, I just want to defend beast a little because obviously he wasn't smart enough to think of that. He was blinded by love, that's like the only excuse really. It wasn't selfish, but completely careless. So excuse me whilst I change my vote so I don't seem stupid.

Really we should blame the enchantress for also cursing his servants. It really the enchantress who is at fault for bundling them up, and punishing the servants when they did nothing wrong. Plus it has a happy ending so potato, tomato.

The curse says that he must learn to love and be loved in return. How could Belle love the Beast if he prevents her from leaving and allows her father to die. Even if he did think of his servants the only thing he could do would be to let her go. He only had about a few weeks also to get her to love him the way that flower was decaying too. How he accomplish that in such a short time frame after he father died. There was literally no other choice than for him to let her go.

I don't think only caring about your mate and not giving much thought to other people is considered caring. And as I said, he could've gone out with Belle to get his father back to the castle, it would probably have been safer too. But clearly, he did not think of that *shrugs*.

No. If Beast didn't let Belle go, he is selfish and Belle probably won't 'love' him. Belle fell in love with him because he changed from selfish and rude into understanding and gentle.

It's my main problem with him.

They got turned into inanimate objects because of his terrible behavior, they got condemned to solitude because he stopped trying to find love to break the curse even though their ability to turn back into humans depends on him finding love; they had to endure his tyrannical behavior for ten years, and then, after their one ray of hope in becoming human again, he snatches it away from them. Then, when the attackers try to break down the door, he says "It doesn't matter now, just let them come."

Um? Hello? Beast? Yeah, you're not the only one under a curse. You're not the only one who lives in the castle. Why don't you actually do what royals are supposed to do and HELP YOUR SUBJECTS!

I know the narrative is supposed to show he stopped being selfish and learned to care about others when he learns to love Belle, and he does. Problem is, he only loves her. He still shows he still doesn't care about others; least of all his servants. He'll still condemn them without a second thought to their future, happiness, or well-being.

After the curse is broke, when Beast embraces Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts and exclaims "Look at us!" I want to think, "Don't touch me" and "You nearly condemned me to eternity as an inanimate object. and made me put up with your tyranny for ten years besides. Don't act like we're friends."

The problem is all of that pressure. He knows the whole castle is depending on him, but what can he do? You can't force love. If he silenced his side of all the arguments with Belle and just tried to seduce her and pretend to like her, that wouldn't work either. He has to be honest with his feelings. And I think he does feel terrible about the servants, that's why he's always brooding in his west wing, feeling all that anger and self-punishment.

Him saying "let them come" was more a suicide wish than anything else. I think in that moment he just wanted everyone else to get out of the way and let Gaston kill him, he thought that would solve everything.

as Olaf said love is putting someone's needs before yours and that is what the Beast did for Belle put her and her father's needs before his own

No, I believe that he knew deep down that
if he let the girl he loved go, she would
return to him when the time
was right!
