I think sometimes inappropriate language can also be seen as subjective. I also think the ability to read opposing opinions is a personal choice and when we cut ourselves off from hearing different sides, we also cut ourselves off from anything positive or beneficial that might have resulted. I think we can always choose to not respond to something we might find offensive if we really don't like it. I also think that material considered to be offensive in itself should be taken in context and thoroughly analyzed for it's intent and purpose before considering it "offensive" as that label might take away from the real points it's trying to make. (i.e. Sometimes the truth hurts but isn't meant to offend us but enlighten us. Sometimes it's unavoidable to offend someone no matter how hard we try not to. Sometimes we are just a messenger with bad news though we aren't trying to hurt anyone.)

language is only a communication tool, no one should be barred from speaking their own mind. To censor wrong information is also like deleting a necessay piece of information on "what's not right" I believe in Edison's quote here "I haven't failed, i just haven't found 10,000 ways that won't work" So i need to know these "10,000 ways" too.

anukriti2409: I agree with what you said. I think that's a good example of how sometimes "wrong" can still be "right" in other ways.

audreybrooke: Thank you so much! I was hoping that the polls would help embrace the sense of community here (I do value that) as well as allow us to see each other's opinions and reactions in a non-confrontational way that might bring about more understanding, camaraderie and participation overall. I thought it would be a good way for us to see how we perceive things as well as what the true intent of everyone here is, which I believe is to socialize and share opinions. I also wanted to know how the group felt about such discussions and whether or not they were open to them as I don't want to force my interests on the group. Thank you for the compliment, I am really glad you agreed with what I had to say! I like a lot of the things you have said as well and you have described your perceptions very well. I can relate to a lot of your opinions.
