She is pretty enough to be one.

I'm really for more POC...but as much as I like Moana, she really feels like just a rehash of Rapunzel and Pocahontas. I can't quite decide why...but the lineup is already so crowded with the 11 confirmed official Disney Princesses. What do we need? 16 or 30 DPs? Not all of them will fit on backpacks, cups, and other paraphernalia. Right now, they already completely leave out Mulan and Pocahontas from merchandising. Lately, they have dropped Jasmine, and replaced her with Tiana on most items.

Sure, it sounds good to the "factoid" in me to try to include Moana because of the need for diversity in Disney's mostly white lineup... but just like Elsa and Anna, Moana is probably deserving of her own franchise, too, and should get her own individualized attention. These days individualized attention seems to be more Disney's thing, too... so. Whatever.

And no. Leia Organa is NOT a DP, and she should never become one. Furthermore, she's a live action character, and never had a 2D or 3D cartoon format. Mixing in space with the already hugely diverse settings for the DP kingdoms...just doesn't make sense to me at all. Besides, who wants to buy Jabba the Hutt with Belle, and Aurora?

However, wavesurf's input is definitely worth considering... Future DPs might do better if they're given their own franchise(s) 😫 #Conflicted

The fact that Elsa and Anna aren't is pretty ridiculous, because despite them having their own franchise they're always marketed with the other girls as if they are DPs. I which Disney would just coronate all three of them, and if not just get rid of the Disney Princess marketing label entirely. If you're not going to be consistent with it, I just don't see the point.

Tbh I don't mind if she is added in the lineup or not. I think Disney would waiting until at least one year, to decide she would be a DP or not, based from the reception of her movie. Same thing happen with Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida before they're added.

I haven't actually seen the movie yet, but sure why not? But after her I would not like anymore princessess.

I kind of agree with wavesurf and anukriti2409. I didn't think Moana was a *complete* repeat of other DPs, but she still felt really familiar, as did the whole movie. It didn't do enough new things for her or the movie to stand out. So I don't know if I really WANT her to join, but I wouldn't be opposed to it, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if she did. Though as someone else mentioned, it would be kind of a waste to not finally include a Polynesian character.
