She does have a lot of strength, but in the same time a lot of weaknesses, like uncertainty and unwillingness to confront her step family, which I find bad role model examples.

She's too naive to be a good role model.

I still think that a good role model should demonstrate how to keep the hand, not loosing it. And I don't think that the message "You can be as unfriendly as you like if you don't want something" is not a good message. There is such a thing as diplomaty.

Even though she is my second favourite princess, she is by far the worst out of the remaining girls. I do believe she can be diplomatic, and she is not an all around bitch, but she ran away from home when her father regard to listen to her, and she is overly seductive at times. She doesn't do much bad, but she doesn't do much good either.

Shaming Jasmine for being hostile and unacccepting of a systematic invalidation of her rights as a woman does not strike me as fair judgement (although I do agree with Swanpride that diplomacy is a necessary quality for a princess), however, the girl has virtually no regard for consequences of her own actions which makes her the worst role model out of the remaining ones. Cinderella and Rapunzel are the best examples for girls in my opinion.

Oh, I'm totally for Jasmine assessing her rights as a woman, but I think it is damaging to pretent that acting like a spoiled brat is a good way to get what she wants. If she would take a stand in a mature way, I would immediatly vote for her as one of the best role models. Hell, I would even be okay if she choose the hostile approach if I got the impression that she is remotely aware of the possible consequences and other options she might have.
The worst thing about it is: It's basically totally unneccessary. She could have told her father from the start: Yes, it's the law, but you are the sultan, you can change the law! The only thing she had to do was calmly argueing her position and searching for loopholes in the law. But she never did.

^ That's what is so problematic about this particular storyline, which is more of the writing fault rather than Jasmine's character flaw. Because she clearly and evidently stated and expressed her objection to arranged marriage previously ("If I do marry, I want it to be for love") and yet proceeded to be forced into it nevertheless which drove her into running away in the first place. Sultan suddenly realizing he is capable of changing the law by the very end of the movie has to be the most rushed and contrived plot twist out of all the "shocking" resolutions ever presented in Disney movies hence why I don't blame the inconsistency of the storytelling entirely on Jasmine. What I do, however, find incredibly problematic and objectively irretating about her characterization is her essential regard for any consequences, illustrated and highlighted by going into stranger man's house all on her own despite knowing him for less than a handful of minutes which could have resulted either in physical/sexual assualt or being kidnapped for ransom.

Popcornfan may I ask you why? Not to invalidate your opinion, but Cinderella did not willingly or consciously choose the life of a servan and slave labour.

Oh, by far! I really agree with what Swanpride said about being for Jasmine asserting herself, but most of the time Jasmine just acts like a brat, which is certainly NOT something role-model worthy. Also, I think she ends up being a doormat far more than Cinderella. Cinderella actually does do some small things to rebel in her own quiet way, and while Jasmine is so famous for SAYING "I am not a prize to be won" but she ACTS in a way completely counter to that sentiment. She lets Aladdin treat her like a prize to be won (like it or not, she does,) and Aladdin is always stepping into the savior role. I personally think this is worse than Cinderella staying in the house and doing the chores, because Cinderella is shown as still having a lot of backbone and strength, while what Jasmine really shows is that no woman really can live up to her claims of how "I am not a prize to be won," and that even those who are strong and assertive still are not up to what a man can offer. I actually find Jasmine one of the least independent of the princesses, becuase she ends up relying on Aladdin for almost everything and really does nothing for herself.

Everything I was going to say about Jasmine has been said, I can't believe Belle and Tiana were voted out before her.
