Yes, I can finally vote for something else.

This film is pretty good, but Mulan is more consistent, and lacks a lot if the issues BatB has

What? Tangled was gone!

BatB is way better than Mulan! BatB is definitely a classic, one of Disney's finest!

Come on people, beauty and the beast was the first animated movie to be nominated for an Oscar! ever! you guys are picking Mulan purely on the character and not eveything else like background art, screen play, music, directing, flow or animation tech...beauty and beast is far superior as a film!

Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney's most beautiful movies. The score, the animation, the songs, the characters all together. I may not be the biggest Belle fan in the world and it isn't my personal favorite DP movie, but I will always love Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast is the only classically animated movie ever to be nominated for the Academy Award "Best Picture". Though some of the characters may be stronger in Mulan, Beauty and the Beast is overall a better film. The score, animation, and characters all mesh perfectly together to create something absolutely amazing.

@ MaidofOrleans, anonheart998, and LupinPrincess, I do not know about anyone else, but I chose Beauty and the Beast not because Mulan is a good character, but because overall, it is not as strong as Mulan. There are MANY plotholes in BatB that contrive the already contrived relationship between Belle and Beast by the amount of time that went by, and so on. This causes many issues in the plot, while in Mulan, the plot has no issues, and flows perfectly. The animation in Mulan is more consistent and appealing than BatB; Belle looks like 5 different people in the movie, the Beast looks odd at times, and some of the character movements are choppy. The score for both movies are debatable, but the songs in BatB are better. The characters in Mulan are more realistic and developed as well. I do not know how this film is considered to be the best Disney film, when it has so many issues. The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and maybe even Aladdin is better than it. A film has to be consistent, and BatB is not.

I love BatB but I love basically everything about Mulan. The songs, score, the characters, everything about it is just awesome. Though I still love BatB.

MaidofOrleans picked Mulan:
@Jayden-G When it comes to loopholes in the plot, you have to remember that the movie is set in an enchanted castle. Unexplainable things tend to happen in places such as that. A common theme throughout fairytales from many cultures is that time flows differently in the world of fairies - thus Belle could have spent a couple months in the castle while in the outside world her father had only been looking for her for a week or two. I've heard other people complain about animation inconsistencies in Beauty and the Beast as well, but I've watched the movie countless times, and honestly I don't see them. I would love to see two different screencaps where the animation is clearly different. As for character development, yes Mulan and Shang are more developed than Belle and Adam, but as for the side characters in both movies I think it's about equal. My other issue with Mulan is that a lot of the humor (especially coming from Mushu) doesn't fit the context of the story (He uses toothpaste... Really Disney? You can do better than that.), whereas in Beauty and the Beast the humor is all related to the time period. There's a huge bar brawl scene that is hilarious and totally something that might have happened back then. I completely disagree about Aladdin being a better movie than Beauty and the Beast. It has plot loopholes as well. Jafar tells Jasmine that he killed Prince Ali. She freaks out, but then when Ali shows up on her balcony she doesn't ask him how he's still alive. Doesn't that bother anyone else? It's always gotten on my nerves.

LupinPrincess- Even if we were choosing solely on character, the question allows for us to do so, seeing as it is "favorite" and not "best."
Seeing as Mulan is my favorite movie...
I love Mulan! The characters are very entertaining, many of them go through very good development, and in some cases, original development (how many times has Disney done a "bad" hero sidekick?) The plot is really well-done, the entire movie is very tightly-plotted, there is very little unnecessary time in the movie, and what unnecessary scenes there are are very well done (the bathing scene.) (Most of) the humor is very organic and meshes well with the plot, such as when all the men in the army are trying to out-man each other or when gender issues are handled, especially when very quickly and lightly (ex. Mulan extending her hand to Ling like she expects him to kiss it.) Mulan's environment is very well constructed, all of the songs work to build on it, even if they aren't masterpieces (even though I personally prefer the Mulan soundtrack.) There are very few flaws in the movie, story-wise. I also really like the way men are handled. As opposed to Brave, where they are all oafs, there are some genuinely respectable men in Mulan (Fa Zhou, Shang, the emperor.) It makes Mulan's struggle and success all that more meaningful and compelling. But ultimately, this movie never fails to completely engage and absorb me. Despite all the issues that are in this movie, in my eyes, it's flawless.

They're different films, but since it's a matter of personal taste...

Mulan is more interesting, the characters are well developed, the plot and actions are briskly paced, the soundtrack is epic and it focuses on a much more serious issue about gender equality and the personal matters of the protagonists.

The only movies which can Keep up with Beauty and the Beast are Tangled and Sleeping Beauty...I like Mulan, but I mostly watch animated movies for the beauty of the animation, and in this regard, Mulan hasn't much to offer.

Sorry but The film academy probably is a better movie judge than any of you, beauty and the beast was nominated and not Mulan, and I see why.... a movie isn't good based on realism and plot holes, other wise documentaries would rule film awards! Many impossible films win award, thats not the point, movies are a form of art and you have to count everything....you guys don't really have the education to properly judge a film......most of you judge based on personal tastes and preference, it's like someone saying the Mona Lisa is a bad work of art cuz of "Insert personal reasons".... beauty and the beast is a much better film than Mulan...this isn't based on opinion, just pure film facts...awards aren't thin air

Oh and the seasons thing in beauty and the beast? Yeah films use the time of year and weather to show emotions and tone all the time, it's fucking art! If they wanna make it winter one day then raining and summer the next they can do that! It's a movie not a documentary! Shows how little some of you know about film making...it's about the message and the emotions...art has NO boundaries, we actually study beauty and the beast in my film class, yet Mulan is never mentioned or used as an example as one of Disney's greatest.....know the difference between opinions, tastes, preference, and facts

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite DP movie. I love the love story between Belle and the Beast, the music, the devotion Belle has to her Father...I could go on. It's a classic that will never grow old IMO. Mulan is a good movie, but I'm a romantic...and there is no romance in this movie. Sorry Mulan :(

Wow, I cannot believe the double standard that it is on this poll. A movie is not just about art, it is telling a story, and that story has to make sense, which BatB lacks in comparison to Mulan.

@LupinPrincess, if the film academy is such a better judge than ANY of us are, than you must agree that Brave is better than Wreck-It Ralph, or Shrek is better than Monsters Inc? It is not that it has to be realist, it is just a lot if things are not addressed, so we know that it is just magic, or something like that. It jut leaves is with more questions than answers. I am not talking about art, I am talking about story.

If the issues in BatB were in any other movie, you all would be ripping it to shreds, saying "It has so much plot holes", "Nothing in this movie makes sense". A film could be beautifully animated, by could be a piece if crap story wise (which BatB is not).

LupinPrincess- This poll is asking for opinions, tastes, preferences- it says least favorite in the question, not worst. So yes, this is asking for our opinions, not objective analyses. Also, plot holes do affect how good a movie is, because, above all else, a movie is meant to tell a story, and how well a story is told depends on consistency. It's fine if you happen to prefer Beauty and the Beast, but please don't insult our intelligence because we happen to feel differently or make up the rules of storytelling to fit your definition of a better story. And honestly, you could make an objective case for Beauty and the Beast without resorting to that.

MaidofOrleans picked Mulan:
@LupinPrincess Though I agree with you that Beauty and the Beast is a better movie, please don't throw accusations around about other people's intelligence. Because this is the internet we know close to nothing about each others lives, so it's not fair to insult someone whose background you don't know about. Maybe some of the people on here are distinguished film critics - who can say? Also, though I prefer Beauty and the Beast, Mulan has its good points too. And the Academy Awards aren't flawless, because the way movies are nominated and won is based off the opinions of anyone who has ever won an Academy Award. Many movies have been nominated and won that didn't necessarily deserve to.
