Fairytale summaries graciously provided by PociandSmith:

link (here there are 10 tales, but only 6 are about Disney Princesses) Tangled, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Sleeping Beauty

link Beauty and the Beast, but there are also some of the ones mentioned above

link The Legend of Mulan (read the summary, not the poem)

link Aladdin

The results for this poll will be based on comments, not the poll itself!

The entire second half of the Disney version has nothing to do with the original story.

Jayden-G picked Aladdin:
This story takes place in CHINA unlike the Disney version, Jasmine's character is extremely spoiled and flat, Aladdin had two genies (I think), there was no roy vizier, his mother is alive, there is no moral, the romance is not developed, Aladdin is not as poor as in the movie, there was no pop culture references in the tale, the characters are Chinese. This has practically nothing to do with the tale, while Tangled has some.

@AudreyFreak Above all they kept the original meaning of the story, which is about the uselessness of trying to shut off a child from the outside world, it will grow up in any case. (and they also kept the healing tears)
I'm between TLM and Aladdin, but I go for TLM for now. It's an entirely different story, not about self-sacrifice at all. Never mind that the father barely plays a role in the original story, but the grandmother, the sisters actually have a purpose in it, and the sea witch has no interest in the little mermaid aside from wanting her voice. Oh, and the prince really falls in love with someone else, without a spell. The Disney version is a good story in its own right, but I wouldn't call it a really good adaptation. The only thing which is left is the mermaid falls in love with a human and sells her voice to be with him part.

The fairytale and the movie are just completely different with the exception of a few key elements.

^Jayden G Aladdin did not take place in China, it is supposed to take place in modern day Baghdad in Iraq. When the stories were translated in French from Arabic, they weren't translated completely correctly. The Arabic language is really rich so the translators probably made a mistake.

randarful- The version I read was set in China, everything I've ever read about the original it was set in China, and I've also read that Aladdin wasn't even part of the original Arabian Nights collection of stories and was added in the 19th century.
They've kept all of the elements, but the story is basically completely flipped. Rapunzel is the daughter of a thief and her love interest is a prince, Rapunzel's father stole Gothel's plants and made a deal with her to give her Rapunzel in return for more (if I remember correctly,) and the entire ending is completely left out/ changed in the movie.

Not that it's a bad thing, I actually think the story's better. TLM will go next.

Long hair and the tower. What else? They have nothing in common.

The plant the mother eats because she dies otherwise, the witch nearly killing the suitor, the healing tears, the whole meaning of the tale...the twins aside, the whole tale is still there, they just added a little bit to it.
