While both of these films have their merits, I would rather show him Beauty and the Beast. Yes, it would be nice to show him The Little Mermaid since it was a film he worked on that he never saw to fruition, but Beauty and the Beast was also a story that he wanted to animate but never did. Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney's triumphs, and I would love to see what Walt would think of the first ever animated film to be nominated for the Oscar "best picture." I think he would be incredibly proud of it.

I don't know if he would approve of Ariel and Eric's characters or designs. I'm curious to know what a 40's or 50's "Little Mermaid" Disney film would have looked like. (Same for all the others, too.)

I'd like to show him both, but I'd prefer BatB because it has more "merits"/"achievements"; than Mermaid. Nominated for Best Picture, considered by many critics to be Disney's "best", a project he wanted to finish but he never could in his lifetime...

BatB is the most classic and timeless.

The songs and soundtrack to B&B is lovely. However, I never found B&B to be as memorable as The Little Mermaid. Maybe, that was because Belle was basically a static character in her own movie: most of the events in B&B just weren't that exciting. Belle goes looking for her father, takes her father's place, becomes a nosy person about staying out of the West Wing, runs off, basically develops something-like Stockholm Syndrome after a fashion, and then gets Adam/Beast in trouble by revealing that she likes him more than Gaston. Adam/Beast never was one of my favorite characters. I did like Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and found Gaston hilarious, but this was not enough for me to consider B&B worthy of a "best picture" nomination, even though it got nominated in 1991. I did think the secondary cast outshone the primary cast in B&B. So I'd rather show him The Little Mermaid, where both the primary leads, and the secondary cast were evenly matched.

Walt Disney always wanted to get taken serious as a film maker. So showing him BatB with all the now animation possibilities CAPS allowed and then telling him "The was the first animated movie which got a best picture nomination" would be awesome on so many levels.

I really love both films so much! none the less I think he would be proud of all the films his company has made regardless of who wins.
