The 15 Most Important Disney Song Lyrics, According to You
We asked you what your favorite Disney song lyrics were in the most important study of song lyrics ever to date. You delivered, and we had a hard time narrowing it down to fifteen. But when we have a duty to perform, we take it seriously. Below are the results of this groundbreaking study. Note that several of these lyrics have to do with dreaming, believing in oneself, and having heart. We think that says a lot about why so many of us love Disney as much as we do. But we’re getting all sappy on you, and this is science. So just read the lyrics, won’t you?
This is a beautiful song from one of our favorite movies, so we whole-heartedly approve of your choice. It’s romantic, self-affirming, and set to a great melody. What more could you ask for in a Disney lyric?
♫ A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way. ♫
Sugar is medicine that we can really get behind. This classic Disney tune is beloved by millions (and maybe loathed by dentists).
Several of you cited this title lyric from Genie’s song as your favorite. It’s a true show-stopper of a song from one of the movies that defined our childhood.
♫ When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, anything you heart desires will come to you. ♫
It doesn’t get more quintessentially Disney, does it folks? This moment makes us tear up every single time. Because we really, really believe what Jiminy’s signing.
♫ Ready to know what the people know, askin’ my questions and get some answers. What’s a fire and why does it, what’s the word, burn? ♫
Don’t pretend you didn’t sing this song at the top of your lungs every moment of every day when you were a kid. We won’t believe you.
♫ And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all. ♫
The power ballad to end all power ballads had to factor somewhere on this list, and this line screams loud and proud, “I have ice powers and they’re awesome!”
♫ I am on my way, I can go the distance. I don’t care how far, somehow I’ll be strong. ♫
♫ You can own the Earth and still all you’ll earn is earth until you can paint with all the colors of the wind. ♫
Wow. This song is seriously deep. It taught us that material possessions matter less than love and kindness and giving back. And that there’s something called a “blue corn moon.” Also that leaves can be purple. We WILL find you, purple leaves.
♫ So prepare for a chance of a lifetime! Be prepared for sensational news! A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer. ♫
This one is made better by Jeremy Irons’ accent and dedication to the role of Scar. We were kind of surprised it made the list, but when a song is good, it’s good, even if it’s slightly villainous.
Mulan just gets us. This song means something to every single person that hears it, and that is the magic of Disney.
♫ No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true. ♫
Another classic that has become something of an emblem for us Disney fans. Believing in our dreams and never giving up is what makes us special.
♫ Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife. ♫
Hey, if a bear decides to sing a song we’re going to listen.
♫ When there’s a smile in your heart, there’s no better time to start. ♫
Great advice from the invisible London chorus that takes over during this part of
♫ You’ll be in my heart, no matter what they say, you’ll be in my heart always. ♫
Family comes in all shapes and sizes… and species. Way to remind us that motherly love is blind,
♫ Certain as the sun rising in the east, tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, beauty and the beast. ♫
What didn’t this song teach us about the nature of love? Nothing. Which is a roundabout way of saying that it taught us everything.
