While fans argue that Ariel is a useless character ("Oh, I am in love with a human that I am going to see a witch who will take my voice for the price of love"), Don is more pathetic. Why? While Chris allowed Noah to ride on Owen in TDWT, Don still punishes both boys (Noah and Owen) in TDRR.

Ariel isn't pathetic/useless at all. She's one of the best Disney characters of all time.

I haven't seen Total Drama Island in a LONG time, so I don't remember much about Don.
