There's been quite a bit of concern expressed lately about medals and how people are getting them - same thing also has been said about props.
I am just wondering if the users here would be so into the site and be as active if there were no bonus such as medals and props.
Do the those perks entice you more to the site?

The way I see it is it's just a nice little bonus, but it's not where the fun of the site comes from for me. It's like when you visit a friend and they have cookies in, it's nice but I'm not going to stop visiting if she stops buying cookies :)

Fanpop, to me, isn't about medals or props but about the fans and being able to debate and babble about the things that we love.

As far as activity the best kind is driven by the fans wanting to have fun and not massive uploads or the like. For example, the Buffy Spot was slow and we have a great event (The Scoobies) and we are now doing link. This involves just a few vids, forums and a some uploads of fan-made materials and ups everything positive about the spot. I didn't get a new medal in Buffy for the Scoobies, I didn't get a ton of props, but I did get an award from my fellow fans and that made it amazing but just doing it? That was worth all the work.

Fanpop is a habit, a vice, may be. I am a frequent visitor of the Brucas spot and I can literally just stay there and stare at the lovely images or watch the fanvids or answer/make picks. But it's more awesome when I get to chat with other people. So I definitely can live without the props/medals.

I don't think I would have contributed as much if there were no medals or props, but I definitely would have still added content. Nice comments are enough to keep me happy. :)

I wouldn't be too concerned. If anything I just enjoy rating and looking at other people's content. I only submit things if I really like them.

Hmmm....maybe. I mean if there were no medals to begin with, I would probably have never added content to some of the spots I've joined. But when I got a medal for the spot, I now add content because I want Fanpoppers to enjoy their favourite shows and not for a medal.
Does that make sense? O_o

I have always said that they should just take away the medal system, but then that is just my personal opinion...lol

This is a pick that needed to be posted. In fact, I'm off to give you a prop for it right now!

To me fanpops not really about getting medals and props (it makes me smile when it happens but its not a necessity!) its about being able to share pictures, videos and links with other people who love the things you love. As far as I'm concerned the perks of fanpop are the fan initiated things like comments and discussions! hings like the Scoobies over on the Buffy spot and the creation of the Supernatural viewing party spot. These are the things that true fanpoppers (not the medal whores) love and keep coming back for!!! :D

I used to like the medals as rewards for insane love of a tv show, person, sport etc, but then medal whores took my innocence and left me feeling a kind of dirty that not even a shower in disinfectant can remove... So now medals are kinda irrelevant to my Fanpopping. If I get them, great. If I don't, I don't care. Unfortunately props are going that way too, but I still like giving and receiving props.

Like misanthrope! It has been ages since I got my latest medal, and you know what? I still feel fine! I mean if I get one , yay! If I don't, don't care! This site is always fantastic no matter what.

I did not join this site for metals,I joined because it looked like a good site and I was right,I've never been a fan of people asking me to rate their stuff,I do things like that on my own and that is only if I like the content,I agree with huddyislove we should stick to the reason got here to have fun and share opinion.
