What’s the connection between a race car driver, a tv/movie bituin and an ovarian cancer support group from upstate New York? Dempsey’s own mother fought ovarian cancer, so in her honor Dempsey dedicated the Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing in Lewiston, ME. link. While Mr. Dempsey was in town for the 2008 Grand-Am race, the Live Like Liz group asked to meet with him to learn first-hand about how his mother’s ovarian cancer affected his family. In a most generous turn of events, Dempsey donated his apoy (racing) suit to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to Live Like Liz. The apoy suit was unveiled at the June 8, 2008 Live Like Liz race in Watkins Glen. To petsa some of our major accomplishments of the Live Like Liz, Inc. group include:
· Four very successful 5K race/walks
· Three ovarian cancer symposia. The 2009 symposium provided 3-CME (continuing medical education) credits for health care professionals,
· Donation (between $1,500 and $2,500 annually) to the Falck Cancer Center at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY for direct patient care of women undergoing ovarian cancer treatments, and
· Two $1,500 scholarships each taon for seniors in Schuyler County, NY schools.

The funds from this auction will be used to continue our three goals of education, direct patient care and scholarship. We hope that someday soon there will be a test to detect the early stages of the disease. Please help us spread the word about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer!
