Why waste precious time chasing a myth, when you can go after the real things, which by the way have to be found and destroyed to achieve the goal. Why risk the possibility of getting killed while chasing a myth, when you can get closer to killing the person who is trying to kill you.

My way of thinking would have been that having the Hallows would have given me help in finding the horcruxes, so the natural progression in my mind would be to prepare as best I can before going to fight.

I would've gone after the Horcruxes also. What good is an unbeatable wand, that you're not really sure exists, if you can't really kill the person you're after with it.

But I don't understand you guys. Rather than searching for things you can actually find for sure if you just use your brain and whatever knowledge you have on the guy, you would search for things you don't have the slightest idea what they even look like and knowing they may not even exist. I wouldn't say that's preparing for a fight. Preparing for a fight would be gathering army of powerful supporters or inproving your own skills or doing anything that actually has any realistic chance of success!

when he started searching (at the beginning of the 7th book) he didn't actually know about the hollows...
