It's based on exactly the same things as H/C (namely Harry finding Ginny attractive) yet they are forced upon the reader as "OMG YOU GUYS IT'S TRUE LOVE BELIEVE ME BELIEVE ME" after like three pages of romantic H/G interaction in HBP. Harry's crush on Ginny came out of nowhere. He didn't give a crap about her in the first five and a half books and suddenly Ginny is supposed to be his soulmate? Every time Harry thinks about Ginny in DH he only thinks about her looks, and how he wants to kiss her, not about things like "I miss talking to her" or "I miss her sense of humor", no, he thinks about her hair or something
Besides, I can't enjoy Ginny's character. Characters can change during a series of books (JKR did it right with Neville, for example) but with Ginny she did it all wrong. It's like she had four personality transplants. From one book to another she acts all different, and while nobody cared about her in the first five books (where she went from extremely shy to slightly normal to 'feisty') she's suddenly Gryffindor's most popular girl in HBP (and there her personality shifted to cruel, and nobody seemed to care).
No, I have to say that I'm actually a Harry/Draco shipper, but for the books I would have preferred Harry/Cho.
It's too bad that she was his first love, because I find it a bit icky for a first relationship to be the perfect one, especially in books, because I found that relationship very interesting to read about.
It was very real, they had obstacles they needed to overcome (if Harry hadn't been such a jerk and had treated Cho as an actual human being) and Cho had an actual personality.
What they also had what H/G lacked was development. Harry noticed her in POA, then got a huge crush on her in GOF with some failed attempts to approach her, and then finally 'got the girl' in OOTP.
It might not have been a perfect relationship, but they could have actually been one of the most interesting relationships in the entire series.

This is exactly how I feel. It really was just thrown at us. Suddenly Ginny got really pretty and popular or something, I don't know, but I don't like it!
"Every time Harry thinks about Ginny in DH he only thinks about her looks, and how he wants to kiss her..."
Good point.
After reading OotP I thought I wouldn't mind if Harry and Luna hooked up, I mean, Jo gave more reason for Harry and Luna to be together than Harry and Ginny, but suddenly, instead of the loyal friend Luna was in the last scenes of OotP she was written off in HBP as a unpopular nutcase, and wasn't Ginny wonderful for still being her friend, and most importantly: Luna wasn't conveniently pretty. Imagine the Boy Who Lived being together with an unpopular nonsexy girl!
I said before that I really disliked Ginny's character. Her behaviour is really jarring with the way other people think of her, especially in book six, and seven a bit.
She tries to cause bodily harm to another student, noone says anything about it. She thinks Harry did good by inflicting Sectumsempra on Draco, while his real friends are calling him out on his bullshit. Noone paid any attentions to her looks before in the book, and SUDDENLY everyone is all over her and oh she's so perfect. She is just plain mean to Fleur, while Fleur tries to be nice and the other characters at least try to be civil to her.
H/G read for me like bad Mary Sue self insert fantasy fanfic.
Oh, and @swimswamswum: way to be intelligently discussing something! I applaud you for your debating skills.
I agree that Harry could care a little less about looks.
it was obious that the girl had a crush on him but it was supposed to be an inocent crush, i mean the girl was 10 years old when they met, is not like you can love someone at that age, right?. and besides she was suppossed to be over him two books before the big falling, and if she was never over him....well what a sad girl, she should get a life. and then the got married!!..i mean i dont want to be a pessimistic, but seriously people, what are the chances of marry you high school sweetheart?. the same with ron and hermione( but thats another story)

i couldnt agree more with you. where did all her popularity came from? she was a shy, not-ugly-not-cute girl in the first books, and then suddenly she become every boy´s dream.
Harry and Luna have a connection. Harry is drawn to her. I love Harry and Luna XD
In the books, Harry and Ginny make a lot more sense than Harry and anyone else. They're really good together and I think JKR made the right decision.
I am too! But, Harry and Luna is cute. Harry and Cho would have been nice. I absulutely hate Harry and Ginny though.
