Katy Perry Takes Over Hillary Clinton\'s Instagram, Performs at Iowa Campaign Rally for Presidential Hopeful

Katy Perry rallied the youth vote today in Des Moines, Iowa, where she performed at a campaign rally for Hillary Clinton. She coordinated with her patriotically themed surroundings in a white strapless Michael Costello gown and handmade, crystal-studded American-flag cape, which she paired with a red and blue turban.

The afternoon\'s uplifting set list included "Firework" and "Roar," the latter of which has become one of Hillary\'s go-to anthems on the campaign trail.

The pop star also encouraged the crowd to get out and vote—particularly for the candidate in question.

"You have so much power and this is one of the most important elections in over a decade. So much change can happen," Perry said. "I stand and I march with Hillary. I believe in her future, her vision. I believe in her policies. I believe in equal rights for men, women,

Perry kicked off the exciting day by commandeering Hillary\'s Instagram account before tonight\'s "J-J" dinner for thousands of Iowa Democrats whom the presidential hopeful is trying to woo into her corner ahead of the ever-important Iowa caucus on Feb. 1.

"Katy Perry here, taking over Hills\' IG today for the rally in Iowa. The stage is set, and the nails are pressed. �� T-minus 1.5 hours before we Roar together. #ImWithHer -Katy," she captioned a pic of her patriotic, 2016-themed manicure.

Perry\'s a longtime Clinton fan—and vice versa, with Katy having proudly showed off her signed copy of

during one of Hillary\'s book signings in summer 2014.

"I told @hillaryclinton that I would write her a "theme" song if she needs it..." Perry Instagrammed at the time.

And no wonder the fiery females are kindred spirits—they practically have the same birthday, with Katy\'s 31st being tomorrow and Hillary\'s 68th coming Monday.

"And you know, sometimes it\'s important, you just have to roar about what you need to fight for!" Hillary said on stage after Katy\'s performance.

"Thank you @katyperry for being in Iowa with @HillaryClinton! Love your early bday gift!" tweeted Clinton campaign vice chairwoman Huma Abedin tweeted as well with a pic of the ladies of the hour.

Clinton\'s remaining Democratic primary competitors, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O\'Malley, are in town too, but "Hills" is the only one who\'s got a former president (her husband, of course) and this year\'s Super Bowl headliner at her party.

The Perry concert was also a part of the first rally led by Bill Clinton on the campaign trail so far this year.

Not that Bernie Sanders has been without musical accompaniment: Last night, Bernie\'s All-Star Band headlined a Rockin\' the Bern concert in Davenport and he shed the suit and tie and wore a sweater. (And yes, happily reminded us of our grandfather.)

Meanwhile, though O\'Malley is apparently a Taylor Swift fan, he has yet to secure her for any campaign events. (Though this Iowa dinner is

the one that would have sent the real message...)
