Really? In what ways is he slightly evil? I know he is ruthless though...

I dunno how he's evil, except maybe when he was ruthless holding Light and Misa and Soichiro captive so long, but that's what the manga's author said. Funny how we all have different takes on the same books and characters.

XD Really compared to Light L is a freaking SAINT! And I also agree with the other pick that hes a bit ruthles when he held Misa captive... besides that eh not really evil!

I dunno about being "slightly evil," but L was ruthless and sometimes a bit cruel in trying to catch Kira. He wasn't a SAINT; he had flaws. He was a human being. I love L a lot, but I wish people would stop putting him up on a pedestal and making him out like he was perfect. He wasn't. He obviously is way better than Light when it came to being good.

And "The manga-ka can go to nothingness," REALLY? That seems pretty disrespectful to the mangaka. It's THEIR character; they know him the best, and if they say that he is slightly evil, then he may be in some ways. I think 'slightly evil' is a little extreme, but as I said: THEIR character. If you don't like what they have to say about THEIR character I don't know what to tell you. But please don't be so rude and act like they have no idea what they're talking about.

Please don't think I was being serious when I said "the manga-ka can go to nothingness." I try to come up with 2-4 opinions fans MIGHT have. I don't wish hell or nothingness on anybody, even the world's worst criminals, so especially not manga writers. I even like him a bit in the How to Read interviews (when he wasn't talking about nothingness, that is).

Let's face it, L is a lying, cheating, manipulating bastard. He goes out of his way to put Light in uncomfortable positions in order to make him confess (not that i wasn't cheering here). but thats okay because im pretty sure that most good characters HAVE to have a slight amount of evil in them. Also, how can you catch a bad guy if your not a bit of a bad guy yourself?

Personally I thought L wasn't ruthless enough, he was far to soft for my liking. He knew since the moment he met Light that he was kira. If I was in his shoes shortly after Light got his memories back I would have killed him and made it look like an accident. Misa would have committed suicide so I wouldn't have to deal with her.

Compared to ANYONE in DN, he's an angel. Even compared to this world full of idiots, he's an angel. 8|

He's the good side in the series. Of course they presume "evil" of him. What they don't really acknowledge is that L is only human, therefore he also has flaws, which doesn't make him evil. Any "evil" he ever did is cleansed as he believes in the good, in believes in banishing evil from the world. He's not the one going around murdering people and using death instruments to murder. Last time I checked, he's the one solving through the murders and bringing that evil to justice.

Insantityisfun, i totally agree with you.L could not really act like a angel when hes trying to catch the death note worlds most heartless murderer.
But compared to L is a angel.

he did all the evil things just to help the research about Kira.
