‘A Star Is Born’ Gets Warner Bros Green Light; Bradley Cooper Directs, Stars With Lady Gaga
Production begins early next year in California, marking the directorial debut of Bradley Cooper, who’ll also star alongside Lady Gaga. Latter gets her first studio starring role, as the ingenue singer whose star rises as quickly as her troubled lover/mentor’s star is falling. Deals have been closed by Warner Bros president of Creative Development and WW Production Greg Silverman, and Gaga will compose and perform new music for the film. This picture has been a long time coming for Cooper, who is teaming on the script with Will Fetters. Billy Gerber and Jon Peters are producing with Cooper and his Joint Effort partner Todd Phillips. Basil Iwanyk is exec producer. Production will begin early next year in California.
Warner Bros Names Gillian Zhao As Its First Country Manager For China
Deadline was first to reveal that Gaga was the one Cooper wanted, after things didn’t work out with Beyonce. He was eyeing this as his directing debut back when he was working with Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros on
, and he won over Warner Bros brass with a chemistry test that the studio loved. Aside from her megawatt stature as a Grammy-winning recording star, Gaga has bolstered her standing on the acting front with a performance in the FX hit
that won a Golden Globe. She also got an Oscar nomination for
. They all felt Cooper was ready to be a director and that Gaga was ready to take the next step as an actress.
“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” Silverman said. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home—Warner Bros.—and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of

With his recent string of flops Bradley Cooper proved American Sniper was just a fluke. He’s no movie star, people aren’t interested in him. And this movie will be the biggest flop of his career. It has flop written all over it.
OMG! You’re totally wrong, people so excited for both of them.. He has done good job so far
He got 3 consecutive oscar nominations (2013, 2014, 2015). He had a great career before Sniper already and will have a long one ahead.
He’s certainly a star. He has an energy and charisma few actors possess. He honestly should’ve known better than to star in Aloha or Burnt. Cameron Crowe hasn’t had an honest to goodness hit since Almost Famous and John Wells is a proficient, if not an especially visionary director. Neither film would’ve performed well with even the most bankable actors in the lead.
that really did make it big the blond and change the story a little so it’s like an updated version which in real life it is and everyone loves her anyway already,
Carrie underwood would fit with Cooper he won all his nominations with co stars that fit that look like would be real girlfriends.
Gaga could be one of the divas she gets stage advice from like a coach.
Gaga can win an Oscar with this role. Can’t wait to see what she does with it. Bradley, with Clint’s guidance, should do just fine.
“Gaga can win an Oscar with this role. ”
You mean she could win a razzie? the oscars are for best not worst!!!
Beyonce would have been better. She’s a bigger star and a much better singer.
We’ve seen her in movies, she’s crap. Lets see how Gaga does.
I’ve seen Gaga in AHS. that was crap
I couldn’t care less about Lady Gaga – if she’s doing this thing, fine…but Cooper’s a better actor than…this
Why do studios keep greenlighting remakes? No wonder everyone cool is going to TV. No offense but i don’t think anyone wants to see Gaga’s face on the big screen.
I do ! Don’t speak for others speak for yourself, Its u who is not interested. I’m sure many people are there who want to see her on big screen. If You don’t like someone doesn’t mean everyone will . I’m sure she’s gonna kill it and we would be treated with some great songs from her . Can’t wait !
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are great actors. I can’t wait, it’s gonna be great!!!
This will be OUR Baby Jane, OUR Mommie Dearest!
I guess Bradley Cooper is on the right way, we all excited
We could have gotten anyone for this role… Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul… But Lady Gaga is what “A Star Is Born” is all about! She’s young, she’s exciting, and she’s very, very sexy!
I look forward to the remake of the X-rated parody of this “A Star in Porn”
Gaga had more chemistry with 90-year-old Tony Bennett on those
Barnes & Noble TV commercials last Xmas. How many millions is Warner Bros. squandering on Cooper’s vanity project?
“Bradley Cooper? We love him for some reason!” :Academy voter.
Star with Streisand and Elvis was the one that got away.
This will be the third time Warner Bros has remade A Star is Born. As part of the deal for the first (1954) remake, Warners took custody of all the original elements of Selznick’s 1937 Technicolor original, which has now fallen into the public domain and is now only available in fuzzy, faded prints. It would be great publicity for this new version for Warner Bros to restore the original, directed by William Wellman, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, and written by (among others) Dorothy Parker.
This will be very interesting. Either spectacular…or horrid. I hope the best for Lady Gaga, she deserves it. Fingers crossed.
Smells like failure. Beardly Cooper is not a box office draw and Gaga’s face would make a horse sick.
It’s a tough film to remake because like all remakes it will be compared to the original which is a classic that almost everyone agrees was great.
Gaga as a naive ingenue? Riiiiight. Also Gaga as an actress? Riiiiight.
