Gintoki's just awesome all around. Plus, he has some flaws, and that makes him more relatable and 'human'. His sheer determination overwhelms people who go against him. He has an awesome sense of humor, justice, is a great teacher (to Shinpachi and Kagura), cares about everyone (including some of the people that were considered 'evil'), and more. There are other characters out there that are great, but I think he tops them.
