musical spectacular brought about the highly anticipated Captain Swan wedding, series lead Jennifer Morrison shook the 

fandom to its core by announcing that she would not return for Season 7 – sans a guest appearance in one episode – meaning that Season 6 would be Emma Swan’s swan song.

Immediately after Morrison’s announcement, fans of the ABC fairytale drama’s beloved couple immediately began to question what Morrison’s departure meant for the second half of Captain Swan: Colin O’Donoghue, who has played Hook on the series since Season 2. So just what exactly 

the future hold for the second half of Captain Swan?

While Season 7 has not been given the go-ahead by the ABC brass, all signs seem to indicate that ABC will indeed move forward with another season as part of creators Edward Kitsis and Eddie Horowitz’s plans to reboot the series. As part of the reboot, the writers will launch a new story which will bring together several characters from the series while leaving several others behind.

Among the characters set to play a critical role in the next chapter of

 are original players Lana Parilla’s Regina and  Robert Carlyle’s Rumple as well as O’Donoghue’s Hook – in other words, Hook isn’t going anywhere even if Emma isn’t by his side!

But that still doesn’t answer the question that likely led you here today: What does Jennifer Morrison’s exit mean for Captain Swan’s future?

Unfortunately, Hook and Emma’s future remains unknown and it likely won’t become clearer until the final episode of the season airs this Sunday. One would assume that it would take something life-altering to separate Hook and Emma, but with the “Final Battle” on the horizon there is a chance that the “Til Death Do Us Part” part of the couple’s nuptials could come sooner than expected.

Another possibility is that, after defeating the Black Fairy, a new threat will emerge and Emma will encourage Hook to embrace his destiny while she stays behind in Storybrooke – thus allowing the couple to remain together without being side by side. Regardless of what the future holds, though, let’s just be thankful that one half of our favorite couple will be around to save the day in Season 7!
