In news that won’t come as a shock to non-readers of NME, One Direction have been nominated for Worst Album AND Worst Band in their 2012 Awards.

The NME is famously pompous with its musical merits over the years, and nakaraan winners of the worst album award include Robbie Williams (twice), Jonas Brothers (twice), and even James Blunt, but you’ll be surprised (or maybe not) to find out that Coldplay are also up for the worst album award this year. It’s always a good sign of a bands popularity when they get nominated for awards such as this, so despite being up for Best British Single for “What Makes You Beautiful” in the 2012 Brit Awards, they are seen in bad light in the NME’s.
