21 Fans Respond To One Direction’s Saddest Song Ever
\'If I Could Fly\' is hitting fans hard all over the world.
, is that it’s packed with plenty of fun songs that’ll tide fans over until the band’s hopefully-just-temporary hiatus is through. From the frenetic “Temporary Fix” and the funky “Never Enough,” to the pitch-perfect sweetness of “History,” it’s basically impossible not to smile while grooving to
Oh wait… but then there’s “If I Could Fly.”
Just after the guys hit their stride on the foot-stomping “End of the Day,” track No. 6 comes creeping in to strip you of your chill and leave you in pieces. Co-written by Harry Styles, “If I Could Fly” is a crushing, piano-driven ballad that’s giving Directioners everywhere an avalanche of aggressive emotions. Check out these 21 fans’ responses:
If I Could Fly just made me burst out crying, it's so beautiful, the piano, their voices… everything i'm so in love #MadeInTheAM

There really aren’t enough cry face emojis in the world to adequately express it.
The ones you love most are the ones who can hurt you the most: a lesson being learned all over the world right now.
IF I COULD FLY
RUINED ME EMOTIONALY
I AM CRYING
I LOVE YOU BUT WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS

Plenty of fans want it to become a single (“No Control” Project 2.0 perhaps?!).
I want if I could fly to become a single to show people that the boys can actually write really good lyrical songs
Replaying it over and over again so that you’ll eventually become numb to the pain? Yeah, it doesn’t work.
*100th time listening to if I could fly* *still cries* #MadeInTheAM

Some monster decided to whip up an “empty arena” version, seemingly to torture everyone a little bit more.
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE AN EMPTY ARENA VERSION OF IF I COULD FLY HAVE I NOT SUFFERED ENOUGH ALREADY pic.twitter.com/quaTg9f5p5
Another diabolical person soundtracked it to rain, hammering in the devastation factor.

This “Toy Story 2” comparison is so crushing but SO spot-on.
if i could fly reminds me of that one scene in toy story where jessie gets left behind in that one box and its super sad :/
It’s already earned a spot on future wedding playlists.
if I could fly will be played at my wedding so no one will know if I'm crying because I'm getting married or 1d
Harry’s high note is really taking a toll on people.

But his words are too irresistibly gorgeous. Take THAT, Isaac Newton!
Harry Styles was only 21 when he wrote If I Could Fly. https://t.co/NN6l6rggh3

If tears were units of currency, Directioners would be swimming in moolah by now.
They should've played us If I Could Fly and let us pay for the album with our tears smh

Basically, this album is a complete emotional roller coaster.
Plenty of fans are already awaiting/dreading the day they see the band sing it live in concert.
It even made some nonbelievers become Directioners.
Near the end of the song, the guys trade off solo lines in the chorus. It’s beautiful and sad at the same time.
I love the part in if I could fly where they each sing a part of the verse towards the end.
If I could fly more like if I could die bc the lyrics are beautiful am I right
can you believe harry wrote something as beautiful as if I could fly can you believe how lucky we are to get to hear his thoughts & feelings
