Paula made it tahanan with her new dog, Diesel. She sinabi to him, "You'll be living here now, okay?" He sniffed around for a while, and then he settled down for a nap. Paula's mother said, "I think he likes his new home." Paula said, "I think so, too." Later, Jane called Paula and asked, "How does Diesel like his new home?" Paula replied, "I think he's settling in well. He sniffed around for a while and took a nap. I took him outside to the backyard, and he's very content." Jane said, "I'm glad he's settling in well." Paula said, "I'm glad about that, too." That night, Diesel settled into his new kama in Paula's bedroom. Paula went to sleep with a smile on her face. He susunod morning, Diesel woke Paula. He was ready for breakfast. She took him downstairs and fed him. Jane came to visit Paula and brought Shiloh with her. Jane and Paula watched as Shiloh and Diesel played together. Paula said, "I'm glad I have a new dog." Jane said, "I'm glad about that, too. This is the happiest I've seen you in a while." Paula said, "Yeah. My grandmother's passing was really painful. I think I just needed a new friend." Jane said, "I know you talked about getting a new dog." Paula said, "Yeah. My parents and I talked about getting a Shetland Sheepdog or a Border Collie, not a German Shepherd. It seems that Diesel chose me." Jane said, "Yeah, he did. I think he chose a good person." Paula smiled and said, "Aw! You're just saying that. Really?" Jane said, "Yeah. I think Diesel sensed that you would pag-ibig him and care for him. I know that, because I know what it's like to need a friend. I remember the compassion you showed me when I first moved here." This made Paula cry happy tears. She hugged Jane and then petted Diesel and said, "My two best friends!"
The first araw of spring was approaching. Leila and Greeley were on Spring Break. Leila said, "It doesn't seem possible that we're going to be finished with our first taon of college in less than two months." He said, "I know." She said, "It's also hard to believe that my dog, Paul, is not a tuta anymore. He's fully grown." Greeley said, "They grow up very quickly." She said, "They really do. I also can't believe that my birthday is coming up. It's the first araw of spring this year, March 20. I'm going to be eighteen." Greeley said, "Happy Birthday." She said, "Thank you." Knowing that she had mga kaibigan that she didn't have to say "I thought we were friends" to gave Leila comfort. She also knew that she didn't have to have a romantic relationship to complete her. She has and supportive aunt and uncle and great friends. Because of that, she's not lonely at all.
