Well, i started with the 11th doctor (season 5) because in that season they got a new director, a new doctor, new equipment and yeah. Either start with Season 5 or Season 1.

Whenever I tell someone I want to start watching Doctor Who, they usually recommend starting with season 6. I have no idea which doctor that is, though.

I'd start with Christopher Ecclston (and I have no idea how to spell that) because that series was absolutely fantastic. Also, a lot if the stuff in Tennant's series refers back to Ecclston.
