What are pagpaparangal for?

I've been here for almost a year, and I should probably know what they are, but I don't. Do they do something special, or are they just a way of complimenting someone for something they have done?

They're supposed to be ibingiay to someone when you like a video, link, article, etc. they naisumite or a comment they made. Complimenting someone's icon or kasabihan is good too.

Obviously though, they're not really used like that anymore. Years nakaraan there weren't walls on Fanpop and so people would talk to each other sa pamamagitan ng propping back and forth. I think it mostly just stuck, and people like the look of having high pagpaparangal counts. *shrugs*
