Selena Gomez’s Next Project Is… A TV Show?

Selena Gomez is returning to television — and this time, she’s the boss.

The “Good For You” singer is in final negotiations with Netflix to adapt the best-selling young adult novel “13 Reasons Why” as a 13-episode series, reports Variety. Gomez will serve as an executive producer on the project, along with her mother Mandy Teefey and producer Kristel Laiblin.

Based on the Jay Asher novel of the same name, “13 Reasons Why” tells the stories of the late Hannah Baker, a high school student who committed suicide, through a series of seven cassette tapes she recorded prior to her death and sent to her classmate Clay, who has yet to be cast. On the tapes, which get passed along to other students based on Hannah’s instructions, Hannah reveals the 13 reasons why she took her own life.

It’s unclear whether Gomez will appear in the series, but a role like Hannah could be perfect for the pop star. Hannah is a complicated character. Her friends remember her as smart and friendly, a girl obsessed with blue nail polish and taking surveys. But it’s through her recordings, and Clay’s reactions to them, that we actually get to

Hannah. We know Selena can act, but we think it’s time she did something that challenges her.

Not to mention, Hannah will most likely have a limited role in the series, which would allow Gomez to keep up with her #GIRLBOSS life as a multihyphenate singer-actress-producer-queen.
