Let's face it; the first Silent burol movie stood true to its pinagmulan material. It wasn't really scary, but it knew how to capture the essence of Silent Hill. It followed the storyline of the first Silent burol game, just like a movie adaption to a video game should. A mother drove sa pamamagitan ng an eerie, mysterious town with her daughter, got into an accident, her daughter was gone, yadda yadda... True, it's been done before, but it worked. The first Silent burol movie didn't make for the scariest horror flick of all time, but it was (and still is, if you ask me) one of the best pelikula based on video games. Now, on to my personal thoughts and feelings about Silent Hill: Revelation...
...and if you're an obsessive tagahanga who is absolutely excited for this movie thinking it's going to be awesome, and can't take it when someone has a different opinion, go read something else. You've been warned.
The synopsis so far:
~When her father disappears, Heather Mason is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds sagot to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.~
Okay, so that sounds accurate. Not entirely true to Silent burol 3 (the game in which you controlled Heather), but I guess you ought to make some changes to make it madami interesting. However, there are boundaries to how much you can knead with a franchise before you disjoint it, making it a weird mess that doesn't make the slightest hick of sense.
So, Heather Mason, in a live-action movie. Sounds exciting. She's always been one of my favourite female video game protagonists. Adelaide Clemens bears a fine resemblance to Heather, so the looks fit. The costume disensyo though... Meh, I'm not sure. She wears her trademark white vest, but that's all I can make out of her original costume. Her kahel sweater that covered her neck fully has been replaced sa pamamagitan ng a red shirt/hoody. Her green palda has been replaced sa pamamagitan ng a thight blue jeans. A little sloppy sa pamamagitan ng the costume designers, but I'm whining about something that's not very important. No, the real screw ups are listed below:
geez, not Pyramid Head!!
Aw seriously, Pyramid Head again!? When are movie directors gonna learn, GO TROUGH THE pinagmulan MATERIAL before deciding to cash in with a movie. If this story is going to be about Heather, then Pyramid Head should have no business here at all. Pyramid Head represents James Sunderland's (the protagonist in Silent burol 2) wish to be punished for the death of his wife. If James were to make an appearance in Silent Hill: Revelation, then it'd be a different story. But what is Pyramid Head doing here? The first movie did the same thing, which was already cheesey. Ever played Silent Hill: Homecoming? It seems as if people think Pyramid Head is just some sadistic freak wandering around Silent Hill, randomly butchering everyone he sees, just because he wants to. Yeah, yeah, Pyramid Head is really cool, and I'm sure Michael J. Bassett (director) thinks so too, but... please... Stop with all the fan-service, and try to give us something logical and something we'd all like to see. A message to Bassett; if you want to include Pyramid Head so badly, make the movie revolve around James Sunderland and Silent burol 2. At least that would make some sense.
the Silent burol 2 soundtrack
The soundtrack from Silent burol 2 has been re-used, and put into the movie's trailer. I don't know how I feel about that. In one way, it relates a little bit to Silent burol 2, which would make Pyramid Head's role in the movie madami believable. That is, if it were to become a soundtrack in the actual movie itself. It's also a, just plain, a great soundtrack. If you look at it in a different way, it's lazy. Utter laziness of the music componist. The Silent burol 2 soundtrack is beautiful, arguable the most emotionally beautiful soundtrack in the series. But this is similar to my complaint about Pyramid Head being in this movie. I agree that it's a great soundtrack, but there's no reason why you would put it in a movie. ipakita some creativity, make a new soundtrack!
All in all, I think this could very well be just like a submission you would find on fanfiction.net. All the characters we know and pag-ibig are present and there are some new characters, but there's so much different stuff going on, stuff that doesn't make sense. If you're going to make it revolve around Heather Mason, make the story as closely based on Silent burol 3 as possible. The first Silent burol movie closely followed the first game, and they pulled off a very enjoyable movie. It didn't feature the actual characters, but that didn't matter. The story made sense, which I'm afraid is not going to be the case in Silent Hill: Revelations.
