The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells the story of Ichabod Crane, a lanky schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina van Tassel, only daughter of a wealthy farmer. As kreyn leaves a party at the van Tassel tahanan on an autumn night, he is pursued sa pamamagitan ng the Headless Horseman, supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who Nawawala his head to a cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head." kreyn disappears from town, leaving Katrina to marry Brom Bones, who was "to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related."

I wake up on a pile of leaves. I decide to find out where I am. So, I start walking on the path that appears out of nowhere, and as i do, Ichabod kreyn runs towards me! I ask him what the problem is and hi says, "Please, you have to help me! My mga kaibigan were all beheaded sa pamamagitan ng the headless horseman! He is coming for us next, we have to hide!" Just as I start to lead him back where I came from, the path disappears, leaving us completely helpless! Then, the headless horseman decapitates Ichabod and turns to come after ME!!!! I pato in time to evade his bloody sword. Just as he's about to get me, I hear a shriek, and I wake up to find that not only am I screaming, but the headless horseman is in my room!!! Then, I really wake up screaming.
