For me, Damon/Elena is a very un-healthy, selfish relationship. I DO get the appeal of it, I really do, but there is just so many things wrong with it. I understand why people like them. I've always LOVED Stefan and Elena from the start....the way her face lit up as she smiled with her eyes and looked so happy was adorable and as was his sweet smile and and loving concern.

As you will see on the S.1 DVD extras Julie Plec says Vampire Diaries is about 'a girl who feels dead in side and a boy who is dead in side and how they bring each other back to life'-and that's why they're so amazing, they are good for each other-they're not pulling each other down into eternal misery but picking each other up and seeing if they're okay.
