‘The White Princess’: Alex Kalymnios To Direct Starz Miniseries; Amy Manson, Andrew Whipp, Patrick Gibson Join Cast
Alex Kalymnios has signed on to direct three episodes of
miniseries, from Company Pictures and Playground. In addition, Amy Manson
'Outlander' Casts David Berry As Lord John Grey
for Red Productions, will direct episodes 4, 5, and 6 of the 8-episode series. She has also directed
which premiered to critical acclaim on BBC3 after receiving 1.5 million views online.
Manson joins the production as Lady Catherine Gordon, cousin to King James IV of Scotland. Catherine is the politically motivated love interest of “The Boy” – a young man who threatens to rupture the tentative peace bought by the marriage of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII by claiming to be Prince Richard of York, rightful heir to the throne and Elizabeth’s long lost brother. “The Boy” – played by Gibson finds support in the courts of Europe, giving new hope to a group of York loyalists led by the Duchess of Burgundy and Elizabeth Woodville – the Dowager Queen.
Whipp rounds out the cast as Richard Pole, supporter and former soldier of Henry VII, whose marriage to Elizabeth’s cousin Margaret Plantagenet (Rebecca Benson) reinforces the alliance between the Houses of York and Lancaster under Tudor rule.
They join previously cast Jacob Collins-Levy as Henry VII, Jodie Comer (Princess Elizabeth), Essie Davis (Elizabeth Woodville), Joanne Whalley (Duchesss of Burgundy), Michelle Fairley (Margaret Beaufort) and Suki Waterhouse (Cecily of York).
Adapted from Philippa Gregory’s best-selling novel and part of
War book series, The White Princess sees England ostensibly united by the marriage of Elizabeth of York and King Henry VII, but their personal and political rift runs deep and the war that rages between them threatens to tear the kingdom apart once again.
Emma Frost is showrunner and executive producer. Jamie Payne produces and directs. Lachlan MacKinnon is serving as producer, with Gregory serving as EP on this adaptation of her novel. Playground’s Colin Callender and Scott Huff also will serve as executive producers with Company Pictures’ Michele Buck.
