Chapter Nine
Unless, Reese was working with Hazel. How else would Hazel be able to release Reese from jail for just an event like this. There was no other way. Dakota stopped at the door and tried smiling but it was so stained you could tell it was fake. Reese didn't smile. She appeared sad. She wouldn't mumble a word. All she did was slowly stand up and prance on Dakota. She was able to hold Dakota down and lug her towards the bed. She handcuffed Dakota to Hazel's bed. It happened so quickly that Dakota wasn't able to put up much of a fight.
"I am so sorry for this Dakota but if I want my freedom, I have to make sure you stay out of the way." Reese pulled a wig and some makeup from under the bed. She hurriedly pulled the wig over her head and apply the makeup to change her appearance. She was completely different. It was obviously a disguise. Did she escape from prison? "Bye Dakota. I promise you won't remember a thing." Reese got a bat that was also from under the bed. She thwacked Dakota on the head and watched as Dakota passed out. Then Reese locked the bedroom door and scurried to Hazel.
Connor was having a marvelous time as he talked to Ally, Monte, Tyson, and Craig. They were all interested in soccer. He was dismal when they announced they had to leave.
"Had a fun time?" Hazel questioned as she rested a hand on Connor's shoulder.
"The best," he answered. "But where is Dakota?" He scanned the room but didn't see her anywhere.
"She is waiting for you outside." Hazel led him to the front door and watched as he went outside.
Connor was surprised when the police tackled him to the ground and handcuffed his wrist. The worse part was that everyone had gathered around to observe the scene. He tried shaking them off but it was no use as or policemen gripped him to hold him still. They shoved him into the cop car and drove away. Connor was both confused and angry. He didn't do anything wrong, so why were they arresting him. He didn't think about that one illegal thing he did.
Hazel had sent Dakota to the nearest hospital. She didn't want her parents to find Dakota unconscious in her room. She told the doctors that she had slipped and fell down the steps. They believed her and immediately put her in a room to examine her. She had multiple head injuries but nothing too serious.
Dakota awoke to find Hazel sitting in a chair susunod to her hospital bed. He was dazed and confused. The only thing she remembered was going to find Reese but Reese should be locked up in jail. She turned towards Hazel to find her silently staring out the hospital window. "What happened?" Dakota asked.
Hazel wouldn't face her. "You had a wild time at my party and you slipped and fell down the stair. You hit your head pretty hard."
"Where's Connor?" Dakota questioned.
"He was arrested last night for grave robbing," replied Hazel. "Apparently, he was the one who estola Abigail's body."
There was a small silence. "What about Reese? I swore I saw her the night of your party. I can't remember anything else after that though."
"Reese has been set free. After they caught Connor, they assumed that he was the killer and they gave him 20 years to life." Hazel shrugged and continued to stare out the window. Dakota had a dozen madami tanong to banter Hazel with. She was so dazed from all of the pain medication they ave her that she wasn't sure whether to trust her or turn her into the police. "Since you are so hopped up on pain medication, I will confide in you with one of my deepest secrets."
It was true. Dakota could barely see without getting dizzy. She willed herself to focus entirely on Hazel and to try to remember everything that Hazel was about to tell her. "What is it Haze?" she asked sa pamamagitan ng using Hazel's old nickname.
Hazel burst into a fit of tears. "I killed Gwendolyn and Abigail. I am the one who got Connor arrested even though the accusations were true. I was the one who got Reese out of jail and I was the one who told her to hit you upside the head with a bat so that you wouldn't remember a thing." Dakota's vision was getting a little blurry but she forced herself to pay attention. "Then I dug up Abby's grave to retrieve some pictures that were buried inside her grave. I am so sorry." She wiped the remaining tears off her face. She pulled out a needle and injected it into Dakota's arm. Dakota black out immediately after that.

Today's the day
We ipakita all our strength
Tonight's the night...
No one's ever gonna keep me down
Again...
And I'm gonna go on,
And on.
Tonight's the night
We're gonna be determined
Have hope in our eyes
You can see it inside
As we rev it across tonight
Tonight's the night
Tonight I'm gonna give it my best shot
And no one's gonna control me
Not tonight,
Oh not now,
And maybe not ever again.
Cause I have the feeling
That I'm powerful
That I'm givin it my all
And it's gonna be a shocker
When I power the stage tonight
Tonight's the night
And no one's gonna shove me down again,
Cuz tonight's my night.
