CHAPTER ONE
PAIRING OFF
It was a very normal sort of araw at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Well, it was as normal as it would ever get while Harry Potter attended the school. Everywhere in the castle, the students were pagganap like normal students. Down in the dungeons, Fred and George Weasley, master pranksters, set off a Dungbomb, effectively canceling classes in that part of the castle.
Farther away, Hermione Granger, the brightest witch of her age, was struggling to get a better grip on her books. “Please. Don’t. Fall,” she said, as the books spilled out of her arms and fell everywhere.
Just then, Ron Weasley came along. “Hermione, here. I’ll help you pick your books up,” he said, kneeling on the cold stone floor to do just that.
“Thanks, Ron,” Hermione replied, smiling up at him. They finished picking up her dozen or so books.
“Hermione...I have to go study for a Charms exam...would you help me?” Ron asked.
Ron wanting to study? That’s new, Hermione thought to herself. Out loud, she said, “Sure, Ron. We can go to that one quiet corner in the library. Nobody will bug us there.” She then turned to Harry. “I have a lot of studying to do.” And without waiting for Harry's response, she dragged Ron to the library, shouting, “C’mon, Ron!”
Meanwhile, in another part of the castle, Neville Longbottom was working on a Potions essay. He had never been any good at Potions, especially considering the teacher. Severus Snape was the most evil teacher you could ever have...unless you were a Slytherin.
“Please let me get a good grade!” Neville muttered to the parchment as he wrote furiously. After just a few minutes, he got stuck. “I hate this class!” he shouted, throwing his quill across the room in frustration. Just as Neville began thinking some rather nasty things about his Potions professor, who should arrive but Luna Lovegood.
“Neville, calm down, you’ll upset the Wrackspurts around your head…” she sinabi in her usual dreamy voice. That made Neville downright nervous.
“W-what? Wrackspurts?” he stammered.
“Oh they're little invisible creatures that float up into your ears and make your brain go fuzzy,” she explained.
“Oh. Um, okay. Thanks for the warning…?” Neville replied warily.
“I can ipakita some of them to you, I kept some in a jar when I found them!” Luna sinabi excitedly.
“Really? Let me see!”
“Okay! I’ll go get it! It’s in my trunk up in the dormitory!” As Luna ran up to Ravenclaw Tower, Neville sat in a chair, waiting for her.
Off in that quiet corner of the library, something strange was happening. Hermione was talking about Charms…and Ron didn't really care. He only cared about how her hair bounced whenever she moved her head up from the paper she was hunched over, or the fact that her eyes glowed whenever she talked about anything academic. Before Ron even knew what he was doing, he leaned into Hermione and kissed her.
Hermione was surprised, to say the least. “R-Ron…I didn’t know you liked me like that…” She wrapped him in a hug and kissed him back.
“Well I’ve wanted to do that since segundo year…” Hermione blushed and laid her head on Ron’s chest, her arms still around him.
Just then, who should appear but Fred and George. They silently crept up behind the pair.
“Hello there little brother,” they chorused.
Ron continued holding Hermione in his arms. It felt good, but, as usual, he couldn’t have his moment. “Bloody hell, Fred, George, what are you doing here?” he asked. Hermione shot them a look.
“What aren’t we doing,” they chorused again.
“We just wanted to see our little brother,” George sinabi teasingly.
“Hermione, eh? She doesn’t call you Won-Won too, does she?” Fred asked.
“No, Fred, for your information, she does not call me Won-Won.” Ron hugged Hermione a bit closer to his chest. “And I think she would like you two to leave.”
The twins each put a hand on Hermione’s shoulders. “You don’t want us to leave—“ George said.
“—right, Hermione?” Fred finished.
“Yes, I kind of do guys, sorry,” Hermione replied. She then buried her face in Ron’s T-shirt.
“All right then,” they sighed. They then left the couple alone, and hid in a deserted corridor, watching people on the Marauder’s Map. They had “borrowed” the map from Harry, who still probably didn’t realize it was missing.
Up in Ravenclaw Tower, Luna searched through her trunk, only to find that her jar had been stolen. She didn’t want to disappoint Neville…but she had to. She hurried back and found Neville sitting in the same chair as before. “I'm so sorry Neville, but…I think someone estola my jar of Wrackspurts…I didn't mean to waste your time waiting for me.”
“It’s all right, Luna. I still believe you,” Neville replied.
“Thanks, Neville. You’re one of the best mga kaibigan I ever had.”
Neville blushed. “Y-You’re welcome,” he stammered. Luna then hugged him.
“Thanks for being a good friend to me,” she said. Neville hugged her back, smiling.
“Sure thing, Luna.”
Back in the library, Ron and Hermione breathed a sigh of relief.
“Thank goodness they left, I was beginning to worry they were never going to leave…” Ron said.
“Same here,” Hermione replied, looking up at him with a smile.
“Hermione, maybe we should go. The aklatan might be closing soon…” Ron trailed off. If it was indeed late enough for the aklatan to close, then they would face not only the wrath of Madam Pince, the librarian, but also that of Argus Filch, the caretaker, and his skeletal gray cat, Mrs. Norris.
“Where do you want to go?” Hermione asked.
In a corridor hidden behind a tapestry of a knight slaying a dragon, the twins watched Ron and Hermione’s labeled dots carefully.
“They’re on the move!” Fred sinabi loudly.
George put his wand tip on the map. “Mischief managed,” he whispered. The map began to wipe itself clean. He folded it up and stuffed it in a pocket. They’d slip it back in Harry’s trunk later. After all, he was the only descendant of the Marauders. The son of Prongs, to be exact. Together, they emerged from behind the tapestry, nearly bowling over their younger sister, Ginny.
“Hello, little sis,” they chorused.
“Hi,” Ginny sinabi timidly. Even though she was going out with Harry Potter, that didn’t mean she wasn’t still shy around other people. She quickly walked away from the twins, hoping to get very far away before they could think of a prank to pull on her.
“Neville…am I embarrassing you?” Luna wondered. Just then, Ginny walked in.
“Hi Luna,” she sinabi shyly. Even though they were around the same age and had been in Dumbledore’s Army together, she was still nervous around the strange girl.
“No. Oh, uy Ginny,” Neville sinabi noticing the redhead.
“Hello Ginny! Have you seen my jar of Wrackspurts?” Luna asked.
“How are you Luna? And, no, sorry, I haven’t seen it. Hi Neville,” Ginny said. She waved to Harry, who was just coming down the corridor. “Hi Harry,” she called, still shy. Apparently, going out with him didn’t change that at all. Then again, he was probably the most famous wizard in the world, and was incredibly handsome (in her opinion). Of course she would be shy.
Harry returned her wave, then continued on his way.
“Maybe we could go…into the Forbidden Forest?” Ron suggested, looking terrified at the very thought. He would never forget his first time going into the Forest at night. Back then, he and Harry had run into a group of acromantulas bent on eating them. Ron was mortally terrified of spiders, a feeling probably enhanced sa pamamagitan ng that event.
“What about the Room of Requirement?” Hermione offered. It was a bit safer than the Forest, and considerably madami private, as not many students knew about the room.
“Sure…where do you think we could find it?” Ron racked his brains, trying to remember where it was.
“You don’t remember?”
“Hermione, I don’t remember most things. You know that…”
She sighed. “Come on.” She dragged him to the seventh floor, just past the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy being clubbed sa pamamagitan ng trolls. She stopped in front of the blank stretch of wall. “Now, close your eyes and imagine the kind of room you want, and it will appear,” she instructed.
* * *
Fred and George were hiding nearby, listening in on the conversation.
“He doesn’t have a good memory, eh?” George said.
“Looks like we’ll have to do a better job of keeping those Bludgers from hitting his head,” Fred replied.
“No, I think it was Errol’s fault.”
“How so?”
“He keeps hitting Ron when he lands, the ruddy bird.”
If Ron was younger, he would have thought of a room that would give him endless sweets and pudding. But now that he was older, he thought of a kind of place that would let him be alone with Hermione for as long as he wanted without any interruptions from anyone. He opened his eyes and saw a door.
Hermione took Ron’s hand and opened the door. “Oh, Ron!” she exclaimed. The room was a calming blue, with plush white carpet. The couches were the same color as the walls, and there were bookshelves in multiple places around the room. Hermione hugged Ron tightly as the door closed behind them.
Having left the seventh floor, Fred and George were in the midst of planning another prank. They had with them another Dungbomb, one they were about to set off. Just then, Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of the school, walked by.
“Hello, Professor,” the twins chorused respectfully, hiding the Dungbomb behind their backs.
