Ok, this might be a silly question, sorry. What are "AU" couples? I've seen that term in several picks and spots now and I can't figure out what it stands for...

I would pair Rachel from Glee with Dawson of (duh) Dawson's Creek. Basically I wanted to challenge myself to find someone for Dawson as I can not really see him with anyone.
