I personally don't think that's the case at all. When they cry it's because they're emotional and they're emotional because they're in love.
There's a difference between crying BECAUSE of a guy and crying OVER a guy.
A lot of the time, crying simply just shows passion. If you don't cry in your relationships... then your feelings for that person probably aren't very strong, if they aren't bringing out any emotion from you. Crying is perfectly healthy. However ofcourse, it always depends on the REASON for the crying. If you're crying over and over again, because something is wrong in the relationship, then obviously that can be a bad thing.
This. If she's crying over him a lot, she's really passionate about and emotionally invested in the relationship. Her heart is really in it. But if she's crying because of him, it's a whole 'nother story.
Word.
Like when Peyton cries over Jake leaving in S2, that's a "good" cry. She's crying because she loves him so damn much and it breaks her heart to watch him walk away =/
But then there are moments like 5x17, Peyton cries/is upset because Lucas said he hated her & she ruined his life. That would be a "bad" cry.

I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THIS, HOLLY!
But to add:
But if the girl is crying more than she is smiling... that's a huge problem. Because being emotional should mean feeling a range of emotions... an emotional person may have extreme lows (especially when in love) but she should be experiencing extreme highs as well.
And I also think a television character crying a lot could be bad though... because it's tv (and not real life) so no one wants to watch someone CONSTANTLY crying.
Logan: Come on, you know I'm not talking about Hannah. I thought our story was epic, you know, you and me.
Veronica: Epic how?
Logan: Spanning years and continents. Lives ruined, bloodshed. EPIC. But summer's almost here, and we won't see each other at all. And then you leave town... and then it's over.
Veronica: Logan...
Logan: I'm sorry about last summer. You know, if I could do it over...
Veronica: Come on. Ruined lives? Bloodshed? You really think a relationship should be that hard?
Logan: No one writes songs about the ones that come easy.
I Want Blair from Gossip Girl Crying Over Chuck but Not Over Nate.
Or Amy from The Secret Life Crying Over Ricky but Not Over Ben.
Or Quinn from Glee Crying Over Puck but Not Over Finn.
If They Cry Over Him It Means They Care!
That's what I gather. There's a reason Blair cries over Chuck and not Nate. There's a reason Kate cries over Jack and not Sawyer. Just sayin.
???
Well yeah, just not near as much. I made this pick with those two couples in mind since that's a thing their critics point to.
Guys cry too!!!
