Chapter Three- "Rest"
It had been three weeks since Sam's last encounter with Artemis and the assassins. Something bugged the back of his mind. It was something holly had sinabi on their segundo battle. If holly was even her real name.
But here Sam was, yet again, rushing to change into his Revenge outfit as sniper shots rang through the school yard.
Artemis was a little faster on the draw this time. She was attempting to make her way past Cheshire and towards Holly, but she was so far unsuccessful.
Red Revenge knew that she had Kid Flash as back-up. The ginger was not that hard to find. But he didn't want to rely on those two junior heroes. Revenge pulled on his mask and leaped out of cover.
A sniper shot hit him instantly in the chest and knocked him to the ground. A bit of blood leaked out of his suit. He pulled the round out of his chest and tossed daggers at the assassin's perch.
"Samuel Grant was saved yet again sa pamamagitan ng Red Revenge and what appears to be another Justice Leaguer. Green palaso or his new sidekick Artemis. Either way, New York and Samuel Grant are lucky to have the backup of the Justice League. When asked about--"
Bruce Wayne shut the telebisyon off.
"Do you not like the programming Master Bruce?" Alfred asked, walking in and pouring some tsaa into the billionaire's cup.
"He just doesn't like who's on it." Tim said, mouth full of cookies.
"Personally, I respect Artemis for what she's been through." Dick said, entering the room in civvies.
"It's not Artemis." Bruce Wayne said, sipping his drink. "It's how she's making the news. She's supposed to be undercover."
"Well Master Bruce. Perhaps you, Master Tim, and Master Richard wold like to slip into something a bit madami comfortable." Alfred said.
"Why Alfred? Is something wrong?"
"It appears the Joker is holding the Mayor hostage downtown."
Dick & Tim grinned, standing up at the same time. "Oh yeah. Here we go."
"Did Batman hold you up at the Cave again?" the wheel-chair bound woman asked.
"No." The blonde teenage girl responded. "A confidential mission."
Artemis's mother raised her eyebrow.
"I'm supposed to stay in New York and protect Samuel Grant from assassins."
"So that was you on the news."
Artemis turned around and gave her mother a look before slapping mani mantikilya on the bread. "Yeah. And Batman was mad."
Artemis turned around and handed a sanwits to her mother. They began eating as Artemis continued talking.
"There's also this jerk, Red Revenge; he thinks he owns New York City. He keeps getting in my way, and then getting mad at me because I can't get to the assassins in time!" Artemis said.
"Sounds like a handful." her mother replied. "What about the billionaire? Does he-"
"Yeah, he knows I'm following him. But he doesn't know I'm also the same girl who is 'getting closer to him' as a citizen."
Artemis's mother raised an eyebrow.
"It's not that bad." Artemis continued, not looking at her mother. "I mean, he's nice, generous, handsome, even if he does disappear a lot."
"I thought you liked Willy." Artemis's mother sinabi with a knowing smile. "Or is his name--"
"Wally." Artemis said. "It's Wally mom. Kid Flash?"
"Oh. And do you still like him?" her mother asked, still smiling.
"It doesn't matter." Artemis said, her attitude dropping. "He doesn't even like me, or respect me anymore. He'll never want to go out with me again."
"Oh yes, you can tell a guy doesn't like you when he compliments you on being as good as his best friend. You can tell a guy doesn't like you when he swears vengeance on all who apparently killed you. You can tell a guy-"
"Mom! Enough!" Artemis interrupted. "Whatever it sounds like, he doesn't like me."
Artemis stood up and placed the two dishes in the sink before walking off to bed.
