Dick opened his eyes. He was still extremely tired and his side hurt badly. He blinked a few times, trying to remember the facts. Zucco stabbed me. I'm still alive. I wish I wasn't. He sat up slowly in the kama in the Med-Bay. "Hey, you're up." yawned a voice. Dick stared at Artemis. Her eyes were puffy and her hair was a mess. "Yeah." he whispered, watching her. "Were you crying?" Artemis rubbed her eyes and said, "Just a little bit. But you're the only one who knows." Dick smiled. "It's good to cry you know." She rolled her eyes and stared at him. "Seriously Dick. I think we might have jumped into that one a little too early. There was barely a plan. That's probably why you got..." she trailed, not sure how to continue. Dick hardened his gaze. "Stabbed? That was my fault. That sick freak killed my parents. I wasn't going to wait. If I had waited, he would be in another city with no clues to which one sa pamamagitan ng now. He'd be gone. And my chance of revenge too. But he's gone now. So it doesn't matter." he sinabi miserably. "Don't worry. We'll find him again." she whispered, reaching out to grab Dick's hand in a comforting manner. "You remind me of my mother when you do that." he murmurs. Artemis's eyes widened. "Tell me about her." she said. Dick stared at Artemis, multiple memories and emotions coming over him. "My mother... was a sweet woman. I remember when I was younger, she would always hold my hand when I needed comfort. She would never leave me when I was upset. She was my best friend." Artemis felt tears coming to her eyes. "She had this way of lighting up the room when she stepped in." Dick continued. "Everyone loved her. That's why...that's why it was a shock to everyone when they heard she had been murdered along with my father. And the worse part is, I was there to see it." A silence makes Dick start to shake and Artemis comes closer to him. "I'm so sorry." she choked out. "I can't even come close to what you've gone through." She pressed her forehead against his hand she was holding. "Thanks..." he whispered, still admiring her hair. She looked up and their eyes locked. Dick smiled faintly before coming close to her face. "For all it's worth...I'm glad you're such a good friend." Artemis stared at Dick, annoyed that she was blushing. I'm with Wally. Hell, I'm getting married to him! I can't have any feelings for his best friend! Can I?, she thought to herself. Dick kissed her. On the cheek. But she and him both knew that he wanted it to be more. Artemis gently let go of Dick's hand and stood up. "Feel better." she whispered, walking slowly away from him. Dick was silent as he watched her leave. "What I miss is when you and Wally hated each other." he whispered to himself. There was nothing he wanted madami than for her to be his. Dick wanted Artemis's heart. But she could never feel the same way. She was with Wally. And he loved her. Wally never knew how Dick felt about Artemis. And he never would. So the hope of him and her dating, would never happen. He closed his eyes and drifted off into a sleep.
