Avenged Sevenfold was pretty all over the board when it came to the first three albums. Then came the self-titled in 2007 and they almost became a new band. While critics may have written them off as a

Guns N Roses clone, the new gimmick worked for them. Some longtime fans have apparently been clamoring for a return.  So will we ever see a return to the earlier sound of Avenged Sevenfold? According to frontman M. Shadows in an interview with The Jakarta Post, the members of the band don't enjoy that sound anymore and there's basically no chance!

“The metalcore has been left behind. It’s not something that any of us find enjoyment in listening to, so it’s obviously that the direction we would write songs in. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a comeback. We are ever evolving and never repeat ourselves … I want to stay away from trends and do what we want to do musically. We write music because we have to — it’s a part of our very being. As we develop I just see us following our heart on this musical journey.”

Well this sucks a little bit. In my opinion, the self-titled was alright at best,

would have been cool if Metallica wasn't already around. Maybe the group can turn it all around and knock out a sick record this year? Each member is a great musician, so the group has the capability… we'll see.

Man, I must be ancient, I had the big 4 while I was in high school and these new kids bands like avenged sevenfold make me want to punch people in the face.

I remember the looks that we got going around listening to Kill 'em All, Fistful of Metal and Show No Mercy.

metalcore/screamcore/emo all those scenes and bands can go suck a dick as far. Buncha poseurs pretending to be something they aren't.

Oh, you mean like how Led Zeppelin ripped off Howlin' Wolf with The Lemon Song and How Many More Times (ripped off of Killing Floor and No Place to Go, respectively)? Like how Led Zeppelin ripped off Willie Dixon with Whole Lotta Love (You Need Love performed by Muddy Waters) and Bring It On Home (same title performed by Sonny Boy Williamson II).

Seriously, until you still showing at least as much vitriol towards Led Zeppelin for blatantly ripping off black blues artists without crediting (and resulting in a lawsuit from Willie Dixon), then you can shut the fuck up about Avenged Sevenfold supposedly "ripping off" Metallica.

Last time I checked, Metallica is *not* a struggling blues band comprised entirely of black men.

Not sure how you got into a rant about Zeppelin or anyone else using or ripping off other artists.

Because a lot of metal elitist who express great vitriol towards Avenged Sevenfold for supposedly "ripping off" other bands are often the same people who completely ignore the fact that Led Zeppelin did far worse with blues artists.

As both an Avenged Sevenfold fan and a blues fan, this double standard bothers me on *two* different levels!!

Some bands just do a style better. Thats why Bob Dylan gave Hendrix "all along the watchtower." I listen to a lot of different stuff too. Its good for you, lol

I dont think the author was saying A.S. ripped off metallica so much as they had the same kinda sound and tone for that album, maybe he just meant Metallica potentially could have played the songs better.

Lots of bands emmulate their hero's sound on their early albums thats nothing new. Direct ripoffs and not acknowledging the original artists is wrong. You are right.

Avenged are chosing to follow the same path and as Metallicja tho (take a step back and look at whats happening) by softening their sound, and i'm sure that just like Metallica; they will accumulate a new plethora of fans while pissing on and off their old fans.

Hope they don't recruit B. Rock to produce it.

Never been a fan of these guys for the record tho. Not my scene. I left Metallica behind years ago with the Black album.

Okay, I see your point. You're obviously not a hater, so I greatly respect you. To be fair, it seems like the author of the article sort of shares your sentiments – but my post was more directed at the commenters that are outrightly vitriolic towards Avenged Sevenfold (and those who like them).

i think we are mature enough to liste to all kind of music, i love they previous stuff, but i id like to see whats next.

Hail to the King is awesome they need to do more of that. Too many new age sounding rock bands none that sound good like Metallica.

I honestly don't even think Matt Sanders has the voice anymore to do another album like waking the fallen, last time I had seen them live it really seemed like he was struggling with those heavy vocals

I don't care arguing about idiotic stuff like if it is old school or not. I love the band it is my heart thing. And the memories to their concert in Czech Republic was epic!!! And I will listen to them all the time, looking forward to new CDs.

Y'all ignorant as fuck. If you don't like it, go get your social security checks because it's not for your generation. Last time I checked, bands like Metallica and Slayer were considered garbage by "metalheads" who only listened to Sabbath back in '83.
