Luis Fuentes has always been sheltered from the gang violence that nearly destroyed his brothers’ lives. But that didn’t stop him from taking risks — whether he’s scaling a mountain in the Rockies or dreaming of a future as an astronaut, Luis can’t stop looking for the susunod thrill. Nikki Cruz lives her life sa pamamagitan ng three rules — boys lie to get their way, don’t trust a boy who says “I pag-ibig you,” and never petsa a boy from the south side of Fairfield. Her parents may be from Mexico, but as a doctor’s daughter, she has madami in common with her north-side neighbors than the Latino...

I explained in my nakaraan linkthe meaning of the this phrase, but here is a quick recap: advance readers' copies are sent pre-published books sa pamamagitan ng publishers in hopes that a particularly enthusiastic recipient will personally promote the work to his or her customers, and thus increase sales exponentially.

Titles mentioned in my first artikulo included:
- The Hunger Games sa pamamagitan ng Suzanne Collins
- Half-Assed sa pamamagitan ng Jeanette Fulda
- The Rhino with Glue-on Shoes sa pamamagitan ng Lucy Spelman

In A Sunburned Country, A Walk in the Woods and I'm a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America After 20 Years Away sa pamamagitan ng link
While I have only discovered Bill Bryson's works within the past year, I have whole-heartedly fallen in pag-ibig with his writings. Why? Because they are the freaking funniest things I have ever read. He delights in depicting the strange and the awkward, which usually turns out to be him. This "God Dad! [teenage eyes rolling in disdain, can't believing that they are related]" theme runs throughout his books, adding *pop* and *crackle* to his extremely informative...

My Life in France sa pamamagitan ng Julia Child with Alex Prud'homme
You must know Julia Child sa pamamagitan ng name if not sa pamamagitan ng reputation. The cook of all cooks. The woman who revolutionized American household kitchens; she entered the tahanan sa pamamagitan ng TV and left us groaning, having just gorged on prodigious French food. My Life in France is an amazing, humanizing potrait of Julia Child as we peek into her life before fame and (can you belive it?) her life before she could cook (she claims that she was horrible in the kusina before moving to France and attended cooking...

In Israel, the lives of three women interweave with the story of their country. Ratiba, an Israeli journalist, turns her back on her heritage to marry an Israeli Arab. Her sister Orit, an actor, lives alone and longs for her Nawawala sister. Elisheva is a nurse who dedicates her life to the wounded and the dying. As their lives unfold, the three women find themselves facing choices they would never have envisioned.

This is a story of secrets and alienation, yet also of hope and heroism. It is about Arabs who save Jews from disaster and Jews who heal Arabs. It is the story of everyday people torn and desperately searching for the right path.

Here, the ancient pulsates in present time and the biblical holds prominence with the secular. Beneath this modern-day drama unfolds the story of a land and its people, revealing the historical trajectory of two peoples, victims and perpetrators of a biblical curse.
If ibingiay the opportunity, what sixteen-year-old wouldn’t jump at the chance to ilipat in with a friend and live parent-free? Although maybe “opportunity” isn’t the right word, since April had to tell her dad a tiny little untruth to make it happen (see #1: “Lied to Our Parents”). But she and her housemate Vi are totally responsible and able to take care of themselves. How they ended up “Skipping School” (#3), “Throwing a Crazy Party” (#8), “Buying a Hot Tub” (#4), and, um, “Harboring a Fugitive” (#7) at all is kind of a mystery to them.
In this hilarious and bittersweet...
