BRITS LIKE THEIR POP VIDEOS ‘DIRRTY’

MSN Xclusives reveals controversy rules when it comes to successful pop videos

Christina Aguilera’s club hit ‘Dirrty’ is today confirmed as the ‘Sexiest Female video’ of all time according to over 1,000 music fans polled on MSN Music.

To celebrate the launch of MSN Music’s new live music show Xclusives (www.msn.co.uk/music) featuring performances from The Pussycat Dolls, The Saturdays, The Fratellis, and Bryn Christopher, fans were asked what were the sexiest, most outrageous, and the most cringe-worthy music videos of all time.

The diminutive pop princess - who created a stir with ‘Dirrty’ in her bid to shed her squeaky clean image and turn sultry siren - took 41% of the votes, forcing fellow songstress Britney Spears and her hit ‘I’m a Slave 4 U’ into second place with just 19% of votes. Australia's own pop royalty, Kylie Minogue, shimmied into third position with 17% of the vote for the tune that made hot pants cool again, ‘Spinning Around.’

Madonna's gonna shock ya

When it comes to shock value, nobody can compete with the Queen of pop herself, Madonna. Her video for ‘Like a Prayer’, with its Christian imagery of burning crosses and stigmata proved too much for some, with a third (33%) voting it the ‘Most Controversial video’ of all time.

Marilyn Manson's video for ‘(s)AINT’, which contained scenes of cocaine use, came in second place with a third of the vote (32%), and the wet and wild video for ‘All The Things She Said’ by Russian pop double act, Tatu also proved popular with voters placing it in third place (12%).

Breaking free

Freddie Mercury and Brian May doing the housework in drag saw Queen make a clean sweep in the ‘Funniest video’ category; ‘I Want to Break Free’ took a third of votes (29%), beating modern rock groups’ videos including Blink 182’s 'All The Small Things’ (15%) and The Offspring’s ‘Pretty Fly For a White Guy’ (14%).

Shed a tear for Sinead

Sinead O'Connor's cover of the Prince song, 'Nothing Compares To You' was voted the ‘Greatest Tearjerker video’ by 29% of music fans and REM's 'Everybody Hurts' was voted the second most sorrowful (23%). Coming in third place with more than one in five votes (21%) was Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven', a ballad in memory of his deceased son.

Bring sexy back

Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love You’ won the vote for sexiest male video of all time with 29% of votes, beating Spanish crooner Enrique Inglesias’ ‘Escape’ (25%) and snake hips himself, Ricky Martin’s ‘‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ video which came in third place (23%).
