We see this a lot with Aurora's dress which is why there's such a big debate of pink vs blue or even green and purple. Sure, yes Gaston and Ratcliffe aren't the most intimidating of villains of the group. But because red is a little more menacing a color than Ratcliffe's purpleish pink color, I would be just a bit more intimidated by Gaston coming up to me with harmful intentions than if it was Ratcliffe.
