Disney Announces Major 2015 Film Schedule, Plus New ‘Tomorrowland’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Photos

As briefly mentioned in that post featuring the new ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ photo, Disney’s 2015 release slate is kind of insane. The studio is releasing 12 new films, averaging out to one new movie per month. If things go well at the box office (and they probably will), they might very well indeed be the highest-grossing studio next year, thanks to releases like ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ two new Pixar movies, and two new superhero films from Marvel Studios.

Disney sent out a press release detailing all 12 of their new films scheduled for release next year, and it’s pretty huge:

October 16: Untitled Steven Spielberg Cold War Spy Thriller (DreamWorks)

December 18: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (Lucasfilm)

There are only two question marks on that list: The first is the Kevin Costner film ‘McFarland, USA,’ but Disney has a solid history with sports-themed films (like ‘Mighty Ducks,’ ‘Miracle,’ and last year’s ‘Million Dollar Arm’), so while ‘McFarland, USA’ might not be a huge home run for the studio, it’s certain to still attract a sizable amount at the box office—especially starring Costner, a favorite among dads. The other is George Lucas’ animated film ‘Strange Magic,’ which does indeed look strange, and hasn't been inundating the media with a ton of promotional materials, which is a little odd given that it hits theaters in January.

Everything else on that list will definitely be huge, from ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Ant-Man,’ to Jon Favreau’s live-action ‘Jungle Book’ movie, and—as if there’s even a doubt about it—’Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’

In addition to announcing their full 2015 release schedule, Disney also revealed new official photos from two of their upcoming films: ‘Tomorrowland’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur.’ The former comes from writer/director Brad Bird and co-writer Damon Lindelof, and stars George Clooney as a former boy genius who teams up with a teen girl to uncover the mysteries of a strange place hidden somewhere in time and space, known as Tomorrowland.

‘The Good Dinosaur’ features an all-star voice cast including Neil Patrick Harris, John Lithgow, Bill Hader, and Frances McDormand in a new animated film that explores what might have happened if an asteroid never collided with Earth and wiped out all the dinosaurs. It’s the second of Pixar’s new releases next year (following ‘Inside Out’), thanks to a delay in production when Pete Sohn took over directing duties and the film’s plot was revamped a bit.
