Well, clearly Ramin Setoodeh has never seen the work of the wonderful openly gay John Barrowman, who plays a very convincing bisexual on Torchwood (who has chemistry with both male AND female lovers), and a heterosexual and disturbing terrorist on Desperate Housewives!

To say that gay actors can't play straight is ludicrous. For one thing, several gay men in real life play straight all the time - and get away with it! For another, how do we know who's gay in Hollywood unless they've come out? It's a difficult generalization to make, and, in my opinion, a wholly inaccurate one.

And for a third, three words: Neil Patrick Harris. Some may argue on this point, but I think Barney is a very horny little heterosexual bastard!

That said, I wouldn't get in a fit over it. The writer himself was gay, and it was more an insult to Sean Hayes than gay actors in general. I wouldn't make a whole thing out of it.

Great points Cinders! I definitely believe it is very close-minded to assume that homosexuals can't play it straight. There are huge examples of men and women who do it all the time. Heck history has shown us that time and again. Look at Rock Hudson. Case in point.
