Gon Freecss (ゴン=フリークス, Gon Furīkusu?) is the twelve-year-old protagonist of Hunter × Hunter. Prior to the start of the series, Gon's father Ging leaves Gon as an infant in the care of his cousin Mito in his hometown of balyena Island. Seven years later, Gon meets his father's apprentice, Kite, who proceeds to tell him of his father's existence and occupation as a professional Hunter. Their meeting steers Gon towards deciding to paghahanap for Ging and to take the Hunter Exam. Gon wants to become a Hunter in order to understand the reason behind why his father chose the profession...
